Condoleeza Rice is becoming the Bush Administration's scapegoat. Maybe Rice should not be shielded behind Executive Privilege and maybe, which sounds extreme, hide behind the 5th Amendment.

Something does not add up here. Linking Iraq with 9/11 and undiscovered WMDs its such a mixed message. It demonstrates that some mistakes were made and wrong judgments were made regarding our future national security. The Bush Administration needs to fess up. Rice you should go to public hearings of the 9/11 Commission and try to put this to rest.

The national security adviser is the conduit between the CIA/FBI/Defense and the President. Her position is critical. When Berger wanted to relay the importance of fighting terrorism to the * administration, he spoke to Rice. When Clarke presented his anti-terrorism plan, he showed it to Rice. When * asked, in May, 2001, about having a plan for Al Qaeda, it was Rice who spoke to Clarke. She's a key player.

She's the freakin' national security advisor. If Bush was focusing too much on Iraq and not enough on bin Laden when the intelligence community was screaming that the sky was falling, it's her job to set him straight. It's her job not to let him go on vacation during such a crisis.

If she wasn't sounding the alarm with the president with the appropriate degree of urgency, then she should be fired.

If she was, but Bush ignored her advice and went on vacation anyway, then he needs to answer for it.

9/11 was only a surprise to us. Not them. I'm not saying they could have prevented it, but they need to demonstrate that they were on top of it and the terrorists got the better of us that time.

I think the truth is that they just weren't on top of it, despite all the warnings from the Clinton administration.

I have no doubts Bush and his minions are forcing Condi to forgo public testimony. While I'm sure she's a PNACer, I wonder if she is a tad bit conflicted by the events of 9/11.

I suspect that she'd be able to bring this administration down with her insider knowledge. It seems like it will be Condi's burden that her refusal to go under oath will be seen as a personal integrity issue and this will follow her for the rest of her days.

It was a good performance for a woman who always sounds like she's on the verge of bursting into tears. In this interview, she didn't sound that way, for once.

However, she gets an F for context. She sounded like Scotty McClellan in her use of repeated talking points. She also was fond of using the word, "Look..." in a very dismissive and condescending way. In contrast, I don't recall Clarke (in his MTP interview) sounding any way other than respectful and straight-forward in his answers to Russert.

All in all, this will most likely have no effect on her downward credibility spiral. The only chance she has to stop that is to testify to the 9/11 commission under oath and in public.

When seeking to insert helpful information into the dialogue, you should probably avoid using such right-wing talking points as "hit piece" and "liberal media." If you will review the posts to this thread, I think you will agree that most viewed Bradley's performance as tepid, at best.

Thus, when you act as if this were some kind of really cool propagandizing on the part of CBS, you sort of stand out as a person who may be, shall we say, living a slightly different reality from the rest of us.

You do realize, don't you, that nobody around here much believes that the liberal media ever existed. That point of view is somewhat supported by the admission of some right-wing pundit (Podhoretz? Just can't remember right now.) that "liberal media" was only ever a useful talking point, and was never a reflection of reality.

Also, you might consider that, to the extent the media were to seek to present truth instead of spin, many here would consider it, well, doing their job, as opposed to "carrying our water."

the great Dr. Condoleezza Rice. She was to defend herself and refute Richard Clarke and his charges against the White House. After about five minutes 60 Minutes goes to a commercial break and never comes back to the interview that was to enlighten America. So I read the thread on 60 Minutes over at freeper-land. They didn't like the interview either. Of course they mostly trashed CBS and Ben Bradley for being over-the-top liberals, but even so, they seemed disappointed.

I noticed one thing. They were all talking about sending piles of emails to the commercial sponsors and to CBS, complaining about the left-wing slant on everything.

The extreme right-wing has an amazing ability to spend most of their time complaining, which is how their views (illogical as they are) end up dominating American opinion polls.

My MIL's husband is a freeper. They never visit, never ask about their grandkids, never spare a thought for anyone but themselves. He spends hours every day working on his investments, posting on freeper, and, I guess, sending outraged emails and letters to everyone he can think of, complaining about their support for the left.
