MSNBC:~"65% say opinion of W not changed by Clarke testimoney..."
Loste quote shrunk to fit subject line. The story on the Newsweek poll is below.

MSNBC reported that yesterday. They said that 65% of those who responded have not changed their opinion of W due to the Richard Clarke testimoney and coverage. Of course 17% say their opinion is MORE negative and 10% say it is MORE positive.

At first I thought, "Wow W is actually weathering this storm" and then it hit me.......65% said their opinion hadn't changed which means if their opinion was negative before it still is and actually is MORE likely to be more negative. Notice also that 8% didn't respond in any way.

http://msnbc.msn.com/id/4614818/

According to the latest NEWSWEEK poll, the percentage of voters who say they approve of the way the president has handled terrorism and homeland security has slid to 57 percent, down from a high of 70 percent two months ago.

Still, the president’s overall approval rating remains steady at 49 percent and Bush remains neck and neck with presumptive Democratic Party nominee Senator John Kerry.

3. Noitcie also that W is "holding steady at 49%"
:eyes:

Yes 35% is high and add in that, based on the rest of the poll the missing 8% could go anywhere.

6. If 49% approve of W overall
that means 51% disapprove and 2/3 of them haven't changed that. Of the other 1/3 there is a 3/5 (roughly) chance that their opinion is more negative.

There are all kinds of figures in there and I notice that I can't find a pie chart illustrating it clearly.

4. Media trying to spin it as "majority support" with the 65% number
However, as you pointed out, it means nothing of the kind.

If 35% changed their opinion, and only 10% have their heads even further up Bush's ass, he's taking a serious tumble.

I only hope it translates to lots of dem votes (or lots of repukes staying home) in November

5. My opinion of * hasn't changed one bit...

I still think he's every bit the bumbling, unfocused, lying, simpering little tool that I always thought he was.

Put me down for that 65% I guess.

8. If you know how to better slant the question, please get in touch
with them. Their bushbot calumny is SOOOOOO OBVIOUS.

Of course I haven't changed my opinion regarding Bush because of Clarke's testimoney. He was lower than a slug before the testimony OMHO and he still is.

9. Yes, but we need to be moving people on this issue
Obviously, the hard-core and delusional people who get their "facts" from AM Hate Radio and the Fox "News" Network aren't going to be swayed by this. Neither are people with IQs in teh single digits, are those whose judgement is seriously impaired by drugs 24 hours a day.

But somewhere in the middle, this needs to start to unravel Bush's support and get him into the 40s, and keep him there.

I don't think his support will ever go below 40 percent. There are just too many "round heads" in his coalation of the stupid who are never going to believe anything they hear outside of their little Fox/AM world.

11. Yes, I noticed that poll/headline was really spun for bush, too.
The 65% are people whose minds are already made up about Bush, positive or negative.

Given his solid 30% for, and then a solid 35% against, and what we in fact have are more people being swayed to view Bush more negatively than positively due to Clarke's testimony (almost twice as much).

It's all about changing the minds that haven't been made up yet, and if that 10-17% is an indicator, Bush has been hurt.

13. Clarke's testimony should also help with
the media's portrayal of bush on 9/11 and defense. The media can't get away with treating the subject as a slam dunk for bush anymore. Just like the Presidential polls showing Kerry even or in front of bush--they may not predict the outcome of the election, but they help shape election coverage, by forcing the media to abandon their "popular president" "overwhelming support" mantra.

17. The most important thing
is that the trust factor of the bu$h supporters has been eroding. The undecided voter - the most important element to this race - is now becoming uneasy with the thought of bu$h as President. Hell, we'll always think of bu$h as an abomination - but the undecided voter is now viewing bu$h with a healthy amount of skepticism. Also, I was one of the ten percent who NEVER thought bu$h was doing a good job - how did his approval rating get up to 90% after 9/11??????? Why are people's ideology so easily swayed?

18. Well, Underpants, there are many in this country
who will still have a favorable reaction to the president, even if an a bomb was dropped on Dallas itself. No matter what happens, Bush has his hard core constituency that won't back down with their support.

22. Oh I know 30-35%
MAybe 40% are set in their support and the same number are set in their opposition.

I've always said that IMHO W's reall suport number is 47% as polls in summer 2000 said that 47% said they would never vote for Gore due to Clinton's penis and that is the number W ended up getting in the election--about 47%.

26. Yes, it all boils down to Clinton's penis
Still getting e-mail jokes on this from hard (no pun intended) core Republicans. Never mind he's been out of office over three years. That's all they can hold on to (boy, I'm getting Freudian).

28. Maybe you should ask them
IS Clinton's penis the only thing you can hold on to?

Why can't you let go of Clinton's penis?

Is it so hard that you can't let go of Clinton's penis?

IS it too hard to let go of?

They's LOVE that.

19. Uninformed is America.
I am shamed by how little the overwhelming majority of my lifetime friends know nothing. I mean nothing about domestic or world affairs.

Most would have voted for Hitler.

Hitler said over and over "God is with me".

That is all they need.

Many have been to college and are successful. Most are well off. Some are millionaires.

They simply do not read books. They watch tv.

24. 17 percent--that's 18.7 million voters who like bush less than they did.
Just think, if only 1 or 2 percent of those 18.7 million voters switch from Chimp to Kerry because of Clarke, it could easily make all the difference in the election.

25. A Really Stupid Way To Ask This Question
The question should have been asked if the revelations changed their opinion of Li'l Georgie negatively. Then a simple yes/no would have been revealing. This is badly structured poll just due to the inherent weakness of the question.

30. It was left wide open to be spun
Like I said at first I was a bit surprised that 65% would have not been influenced one way or another and then I thought about the question that was asked. I don't recall the woman's name (very sharp black woman Sunday afternoon) and I know she is just reading it but they message that most got out of it probably would be that W has a 65% approval rating or that the Clarke testimony STRENGTHENED W's position.
