You people are going to drive yourselves crazy over polls
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 06:55 PM by demdem
All I see today is the sky is falling because one poll has Bush up by 4 points. But take a look at the most recent polls released.

Pew Kerry 47-46
Rasmussen Kerry 46-45
Gallup Bush 51-47
Zogby Kerry 48-46
Fox Tie 44-44

What are you people going to do this summer when on a daily basis CNN will have daily polls which like in 2000 will show one day Bush up 12 points then two days later Kerry up one, two days later Bush up 6, two days later Bush Kerry tied. Any given poll is not the gospel. You need to look at them as a whole or you will drive yourself crazy. Jeff Greenfield today said it will take weeks for the Clarke affect to take hold. A lot is going to happen between now and the election, like according to Newsweek it will be reported that Bush could have done more to prevent 911 and 3 dollar gas prices. I am feeling real good.

1. Yeah, no shit
I remember my rush of optimism when Carter was surging in polls in the last week before Reagan won in a popular and electoral landslide.

Folks could take a chill pill on the polls and focus on finding the most effective thing they can do now to ensure victory in November.

2. State polls
Heck there is not one poll showing Bush beating Kerry in Ohio or Florida, that's all I am looking at.

You nailed me
I have been sitting here panicking--and fuming--after hearing the pundits say that Clarke had hurt Kerry.

6. Ditto...
It's comical and ludicrous. If it happened in a movie I would say "That's not realistic."

7. Remember, We Win State By State...
Oh no...some phone bank buckshotting calls across the country is going to dictate how people in 50 seperate states are going to vote? I don't think so.

Polls are fun for the chattering class...like having a scoreboard...nothing more or less. Remember, we're likely to do lots of things...I'm likely to take a vacation to Europe...just not this summer.

As best noted here...if you're gonna poll watch, do it in your area and state...we just need to hold the state we won in 2000, add Ohio & West Virginia and the manchild goes back to Playstation, Texas.

8. Last 10 most recent polls...
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/bush_vs_kerry.html

Numbers are always changing.
Last 10 most recent polls, Kerry leads in 1. Ties in 1.
7 months is a long time.

9. Long Hot Summer Ahead!!!
The polls mean nothing to me now. We have such a long hot summer ahead, and too many events are in store for this country. "B43" is in for some ups and downs in the next months. Fasten your seatbelts, Bushy-pooh, it's gonna be a bumpy ride (apologies to Bette Davis).

10. Statistical margin of error
These day-to-day fluctuations are generally within the statistical margin of error for the poll. That means they may be entirely due to chance. They in no way reflect anything.

Boy, I wish the pundits could get that through their thick skulls.
