Clarke will be for Bush what Dean was for Nixon
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 07:17 PM by The Lone Liberal
Against All Enemies reminds me of Dean’s testimony before the Irving Hearings. Absolutely fascinating and written with an authority that will make it hard to refute its truthfulness.

Much like Dean’s prescient feeling he was being taped; Clark has presented evidence that is more than speculation.

Bush is going down!

1. Slightly disagree...
Could it cost him the election? Sure. Probably. But at least 40 percent of America will always believe every lie he says.

13. Or who rationalize Watergate
saying that Nixon was the only one caught. That's a popluar catch-phrase amongst reich-wingers.

9. You're right about 40% or maybe it is about 7% high....
During the 90's, no matter what the poll...people in general seemed to overlook the sex issue...except for a solid 28-33 % who bought everything the right wing operatives put out there. Then, they say only half the voting public voted in 2000 - I am of the belief that every hard core right wing supporter got out there and voted - that is about 25% of the country.

Bush can probably count on another 25% of the country no matter what.

3. You might want to say Clarke instead of Clark
Otherwise the primary partisans will waltz in here and start a new flame war (God it feels like forever since they stopped).

5. Thank you...
An error... not of the magnitude of overlooking people on the Terrorist list that entered the country prior to 9-11, but an error.

4. We've seen several resignations from this administration. Clarke is ONE
of the people who have spoken out.

I am thinking this could have a domino effect??

Clarke is MOST captivating and not easilly dismissed. I hope others come forward.

6. DU'ers are nothing but optimistic!!
But I think Nixon's poll nos. did go down to 23% just before he left office, and Republicans do seem to have closed ranks around Bush, assuring him of 40 percent plus at least of the vote. Still, Kerry does have Clarke and Joseph Wilson going for him, to partially compensate for Bush's excess millions.

8. I doubt it. Today's media will bury this story in a few days.
Back then there was "journalism". Broadcast media did not support Nixon the way it does today with Bush*.

11. Unless there is some sinister plot, we are a lucky populace with Clarke
and his contribution will be even more historical and valued than Dean for three reasons...I don't think people realized Dean's value until way after Watergate and there was no 9-11 and it was all highly legal.

We are getting background on questions we've all been carrying around for 2 1/2 years. Questions that are highly emotional and with severe economic impact. And there are hundreds on thousands more lies to deal with and the participation of all those corporations and the lives, limbs, minds, organs, and future immune systems affecting the soldiers and their babies and heritage line. Clarke's role is a blockbuster.

Read the book. Even vetted by the administration, it is amazing for putting together what we could never figure out by getting it drip by drip over the years, plus more that never made it to the media (or that the media wouldn't give us).

12. Keep In Perspective
Dean didn't start leaking his "mea culpa" until around February/March, 1973...spoke to the Watergate Committee in June (I remember that very well)...and then it was still another year for the shit to really fly on Nixon.

Still to come was the Saturday Night Massacre, 18 minute gap, Supreme Court battle, House Judiciary Committee and the "Smoking Gun". It was 18 months that seemed to go on forever...and so sureal the night Nixon finally came crashing down. It's a feeling never duplicated in my joy and shock.

Clarke may be the Dean in this story...Paul O'Neill is the Martha Mitchell (LOL)...but there are more players needed here and fast. There's no Deep Throat that I know of...(if the time was ripe for a new one, the time is now) and there needs to be more regime members coming forward and blowing the whistle.

Also, Watergate occured under a Democratic House & Senate...we don't have that luxuary today....thus we investigate from the fringes. Some nice civil suits into these scandals would be nice, but not een that so far.

This regime is more ruthless than Nixon and a lot smarter. They manipulate the media and the story...and then deflect and attack. We haven't found a way to get our voice heard above their noise yet. But I sense we're a lot louder now than we were a couple months ago.
