Idea I just had to make fun of Dr. Laura's new book
I was just thinking, wouldn't it be funny if, on the Amazon.com page for "Dr." Laura's latest anti-woman tome "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" (ugh), where it says "Customers who bought this book also bought:", The Stepford Wives -- a novel about husbands who turn their wives into mindless robots who will give them sex and do housework all the time -- was listed prominently under that header?

I'm not sure how you would go about this, but someone could figure it out. I'd love to see it happen, personally.

I'm one of those fools who compulsively listens to the good "doctor" when I'm in the car during her show. Her advice to women about how to "keep their men" is indeed very Stepfordian.

Quite unbelievable it is - the lengths that she'll allow her self-loathing to perpetuate itself into book after book about being a good "little woman". God forbid you should lose your man - if you do, it's your fault. You must have nagged him to death and not given him sex any time he wanted it.

If there are problems, YOU must fix them. Reminds me of that John Grey a-hole: Men are from Mars, Women from Venus. What a big steaming pile that was too. All about the woman changing to meet her man's needs.

I don't have a problem with compromise in relationships, and I DO NOT think that women are always right. I'm nowhere near that sexist in my thinking.

But DAMMIT, sometimes the guy you marry is a plain old asshole, and there's no point in trying to "fix" him. You're not a bad person if you have given up trying.

It's scary how so many seem to want to push us back 100 years or more, for the good of society. Remember how happy women were back then?

On edit - I just went and recommended The Stepford Wives in addition to her current book. ;)

8. Amen!
What they need are books to teach men how to keep their wives. Men though, seem to belch, scratch their behinds and say, "Oh, when do we get to date again?"

Time for a Stepford Husband. :spank:

2. Great idea, I just recommended "Stepford"
in addition to Dr. Laura's latest tome. I think it takes one day for a recommendation to show up, and once it does, I'm sure it won't take long before the freeps boo-hoo about it. Frankly, I'll be more disturbed if the freeps don't boo-hoo about it. Part of me wonders if they'll think that "Stepford" would be another wonderful "how to" guide!
:scared:

4. "Doctor" Laura probably doesn't follow her own advice.
After all, she left one husband to steal somebody else's...

She's not a stepford (although she advocates other women becoming one), she's an egomaniac. Introducing herself, she says "I am my son's mother", which manages to refer to herself 3 times in 5 words...

And her doctorate is in physiology, not medicine or psych... she's got no more right to give advice than I do. And I advise not to buy her book; and only listen to her show to mock her and her 'call in's'... that's one show I wouldn't call; if I wanted to be insulted, I'd choose someone I respect to do it, not some call in diva.

6. Better and better...
Job runs smooth, with a little luck it will last past June (when the temp period ends).

Looks like I won't have to take up piracy after all...

What a great idea. I recommended The Stepford Wives, too.

Thanks for the link and the laugh!

BTW.... what was with that "Treat Your Own Knees" book having like 4 recommendations? I thought it might be another self-righteous conservative babble about not giving a rat's ass about anyone but yourself - but it was really a book about knee pain. Maybe is a substitute in lew of a book on ass pain, which is what Dr Laura is.
