April tithing - Who should I give money to right now?
This is my planned contribution list for April, but I would be up to amending it if any wise voices thought a different emphasis more appropriate:

$50 - http://contribute.johnkerry.com
$25 - http://www.moveon.org
$25 - aclu

$20 - planned parenthood columbia/willamette (can't change this, since it comes out of my paycheck each month).

Is this okay? Should I just give the whole $100 discretionary to Kerry at this point?

Opinions, please.

2. At this point I would say Kerry.
He needs it the most. MoveOn is always a good choice though. Maybe 75$ to Kerry and $25 to MoveOn?

3. $5.00 to Kucinich.
Keep the voice of progressives out there. This will be the wave of the future.

4. If you really want to make a difference:
That $100 will go a long way to help a disabled vet have a home rather than to another ad people will forget come Thanksgiving.

What if they threw and election and nobody paid for it?

5. Well, thank you guys
This is all very good feedback.

I think I will change the allocation to this:

$75 to the Kerry campaign
$25 to ACLU

I'll save the change jar for moveon.org

I'm throwing a big donation party for my friends in May, and will put the home for vets on on the bookmarks for that night.

6. I have another suggestion, too
Portland's First Unitarian Church has been the bastion of progressive activism for nearly 150 years. Their social action committee just keeps plugging away at issues both local and national-international. From courageously marrying gay-lesbian couples last month to sending teams to Romania and Cuba to assist in economic development, the people there are on the front lines in DOING democratic values. I went to see the documentary on WMD there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed to the rafters.

They are working on a capital campaign to build a badly needed annex. Donations to this project will extend their work. You might add them to your fundraising party list. http://www.firstunitarianportland.org

7. Congress
While I certainly have no objections to your donations, I want to remind people that now is a critical time to donate to competitive House and Senate campaigns. Small amounts of money can make a big, big difference there, and we have a real chance this year to narrow the gap in both houses or even retake them.

I'm volunteering with the Paul Babbitt campaign (AZ-1) and we could certainly use your help. Paul's a very solid Democrat and terrific guy, running against a toe-the-line conservative republican carpetbagger - Rick Renzi - who has serious amounts of money to burn. Between his personal fortune, wealthy out-of-state donors, and money from the big conservative lobbying groups... It should be a close and winnable campaign, but we're in real danger of getting swamped early by advertising we don't have the money to counter.

I'm sure a lot of other campaigns are in a similar position. We don't need to outspend the Republicans, but we do need enough money to get our message out, so $25 makes a real difference. Please help if you can. If you donate to us, please add 3 cents to the end of the donation - Paul's using that to track money coming in off of sites like DU and blogs.
