The incompetence that we are hearing about in the Department of Defense, especially the outsourcing of crucial services, without bids, to private contractors like Halliburton, is just one area.
There are signs that this plague of incompetence is being replicated in every other major department of government, and that it is ideologically driven.
I can speak from personal experience with the Department of Health and Human Services. Various agencies and offices within HHS ran just fine for decades, under both Republican and Democratic administrations. Sure, there were budget and policy ups and downs, but the basic infrastructure remained intact. No more. Ever since * took office, there have been major purges and ongoing restructuring in every HHS agency. Long-time bureaucrats have been forced out, replaced by political appointees and extremely young and inexperienced personnel. Many services that were handled in-house have been out-sourced to private vendors. This was all done in the name of improved "fairness" and "efficiency." The result has been chaos and pandemonium. The vendors, appointees, and new hires are all incompetent! The policy decisions handed down from above are irrational and change on a daily and even hourly basis.
It sounds to me like this is happening in other departments as well. Education = No Child Left Behind. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention = Scientists very concerned about the manipulation of data to fit ideological attitudes.
Is this going on throughout all the cabinet departments?
