We have * caught in a pincer move; if we have the guts to insist on a
complete declassification of documents as Mr. Clarke has requested. Remember this was a Repuke idea advanced by Sen Frist to intimidate and harass Mr. Clarke. Clarke upped the ante this last weekend when he called for a complete disclosure of all six (6) hours of his sworn testimony from two (2) years ago along with all his emails and correspondence.

What better way to contrast Condi's public, sworn testimony that to have Clarke's testimony and documents available to the American public. Since it was the Repukes idea, we should be demanding it all be declassified. Me thinks they have painted themselves into a corner.

Who will join me in writing our senators and demanding a full declassification of all Clarke's documents and testimony??? This will keep the * campaign off balance for weeks if not months.

Here are some contact #s fdor Dem and Pepug senators and a link where you can find the contact info for your senator.

Thank you for the links.

Edited to add: I wrote to all of them, and Senator Frist was the only one to note that he would prefer not to receive regular snail mail, due to the fear of contamination. Wuss!

4. Just sent this to Senator Kennedy...
Dear Senator Kennedy,
I am writing to urge you and your senate colleagues to
aggresively pursue the declassification of Richard Clarke's
testimony and documents relating to any and all meetings in which
he was involved with the present administration regarding anti-terror strategies. I believe that we have reached a critical juncture in American history and fear that we are experiencing something of a Nixon redux. As have many of my colleagues, I have waited patiently for a change of direction, or at least some evidence that our nation was awakening from it political stupor. This seems to have become an exercise in futility, I am sad to say. As one who voted for you on several occasions, I am proud of your record as an advocate of those who are not in positions of political power and yet subject to the vagaries of politics. The declassification of Mr. Clarke's documents and testimony will make clear, one way or the other, the situation that has existed since December, 2000. The American peple deserve to know what goes on in Washington. There should be no closed doors, insofar as information is concerned which potentially affects us all. Please use your
considerable political capital to pursue this matter, for the sake of our collective future. Sincerely,

6. What made Clarke's testimony so powerful was
1) the specifics, and 2) the details. He was able to say "I sent THIS memo on THIS date; THIS is what it said...and THIS is what the WH didn't do in response."

You'll notice that all of the Clinton era witnesses were able to give specific instances of methods used, meetings held, terrorism threats averted. For the bushies, it's all ethereal - we were engaged, it was Clinton's fault, we were on top of it - but few if any details.

It is very important that the 9/11 Commission ask Rice to answer Clarke's specific allegations with documentation, not opinion. It they allow her to speak in generalities and "in my opinion" sound bites, then we'll know that the fix is in.

7. I made a point of noting how forthcoming Clinton and Gore were
with the 9/11 Commission. I said in my emails that * and Co need to be at least as forthcoming, since the fiasco happened on their watch.

(I phrased it all a little more politely than that. Smile.)

to insist on it. They don't seem to know when they have an advantage to press.
