I found out recently that one of my nephews is in the thick of things.

was pulled out of teaching math class last year to go serve.

Of course, four houses on my street house SEALs, so they always go away whenever there's an international incident.

3. A nephew spent a year in Iraq, came home with a chest full of medals

now he gets to go to Afghanistan for another year. Guess we can look at that war heating back up in time for the fall erections. :eyes: Wish Bush* would've done as Clarke suggested and taken care of that bidness.

Oh, it all worries the shit out of me - he's such a great kid.

4. The husband of a friend

We're not close friends, but we are friends nonetheless. She's pregnant with her third child and her husband is in month 4 of an 18 month tour in Iraq.

It certainly changes the way I view the war. Wondering if he was the one killed today or yesterday (or that killed someone else, for that matter). It's that much more depressing having someone I can picture being there.
