The Peace Action Education Fund has released its 2003 Congressional Voting Record which tallies the votes of every member of Congress on crucial foreign policy legislation for the last year.
The release of our 2003 Congressional Voting Record comes at the end of a flurry of grassroots activities against the ongoing occupation of Iraq and for a foreign policy that will make our country more secure.
Early last month, thousands of concerned citizens responded to Sen. Kerry’s Super Tuesday win by urging him to support a bold new vision for our nation’s foreign policy. Through its Peace Voter 2004 Campaign, Peace Action will continue to persuade candidates for office to stand up for a new foreign policy.
Also this month, Peace Action joined veterans groups and military families to call for an end to the violence and to honor the memory of those American soldiers who will not return from Iraq by participating in a memorial procession from the Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to Washington, DC. Thanks in part to our efforts, Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) has introduced a resolution (H. Con. Res. 384) calling for an end to the access restrictions placed on the public, the press, and military families to Dover Air Force Base where the remains of fallen soldiers are brought home.
On March 20, millions observed the one-year anniversary of the war on Iraq by joining global protests. It was a day that reaffirmed our stance against the ongoing occupation and articulated a hope for peace for the citizens of Iraq, the soldiers stationed in that country, and the victims of terrorism.
Days after the global protests thousands of Americans called on their members of Congress to hold the administration accountable for its use of intelligence information before the war and to support Peace Action’s platform for a new foreign policy that will make us safer while bringing us back into partnership with the world.

While the administration continued to pursue a unilateral approach to international affairs, many members of Congress stood up for a more principled foreign policy in 2003. Twenty-one Senators and ninety-one Representatives earned a 100% score on the Congressional Voting Record. Given the current political climate, these courageous members of Congress deserve our thanks.
