What if there was a Republican Zell Miller?

Let's say a promiment Republican endorsed Kerry in addition to campaigning for him in his state. He also would go on talk shows and news programs taking pot shots at * and basically acting more partisan than most Democrats. And he would also blame the Republicans for all problems, and talk about how it was a party with no future and basically call for it's end.

How would the Republican leadership react? I suspect they wouldn't roll over quite like the Democrats are doing. Do you think Tom DeLay would put up with that?
