I have no proof , but I bet Will Farrell was kicked off SNL

I was thinking about this the other day.

Will does an _incredible_ * imitation that was beyond funny.
* is always coming up with new things to make fun of.

There was a great incentive to keep Will on SNL.


I bet Rove met with Jack Welch and told him to tell Lorne Michaels to let Will go (under the guise of it's time to move on to movie projects).


Does anybody else think it's possible that Rove initiated this in an effort to curb criticism of the shrub and not make him the laughing-stock of the country?

Look how Helen Thomas was sent to the back of the room and not given the chance to ask questions (let alone the first question).

The problem is that the alternate explanation is just about as compelling. I mean cleary Ferrell wants to do movies (more money and more exposure) and he's had some success. He has pretty good reasons to want out of SNL.

So without someone coming forward it's hard to know, and Occam's razor would suggest that he probably just left because he wanted more money and exposure.

well that show went off the air after 9/11, but the guy who played Dubya ended up starring in that shlocky 9/11 propaganda miniseries.

he's been in at least 3 movies since leaving, in which he makes more in one day of shooting than he does all year for SNL. You do the math.

7. Could be. But Ferrell's also OUTGROWN SNL, and outgrown ...

... TV entirely, so Occam's razor argues for a more likely explanation. He can't AFFORD to spend any more time on SNL, the show that admittedly led to his current sky's-the-limit opportunities.

Look at how his work as a film actor has exploded from one film role in 2002 to six in 2004, including a role in a film directed by Woody Allen:

9. True enough. He is not only bankable

but he seems to be respected. Hell, he's worked with Woody Allen - people work for him for FREE and Woody calls them, they don't call Woody.

He has the role of Ignatius in Confederacy - a movie 20 years in the making. If he does that well and the movie is well received he will be huge.

I don't care a lot for him, don't really dislike him, but have to agree that he doesn't need or have time for SNL.

10. My own Ferrell theory....(albeit no proof)

I saw him in a couple of interviews when he was getting ready to leave the show and it reminded me of some of Chris Farley's appearances near his death. Sweating, kind of out it but at the same time ramped up. I remember remarking to a friend "damn not another one" referring to the predilicition of SNL greats to die of overdose. I really hope that wasnlt the case.

Or maybe the addition of intensely un-funny Horatio Sanz and the departure of Cheri O'Terri pushed him over the edge.

I miss her maybe even more than Will.
