There seem to be some pretty interesting events comoing up in Houston, held by the Houston World Affairs Council. (
http://www.hwac.net/programs.php) I am not familiar with this group, but then again, I haven't been very involved in politics or world affairs until recently. So, I was wondering if anyone knows much about them. I did some googling to see if they are *really* non-partisan, and I didn't come up with anyone giving opinions on them... just info on past speakers and members. One negative... their board, directors, and advisors here in Houston have a heck of a lot of energy company folks included.
The events cost between $20 and $40 to attend, and several are free for members ($50 to join). But I am wary of becoming a member, since I don't know much about them. If anyone has any input, pro or con, I'd appreciate it.
