The "L" word
My apologies if this has been covered before, if someone has a link to a thread on this please let me know...

What's up with politicians and the media being reluctant to use the word liar in the same sentence as shrub? I've heard rumors that accounts were being canned at www.johnkerry.com for calling shrub a liar. There is a mountain of real evidence that he's lied (either personally or by proxy within his administration), and there's a bigger mountain of circumstantial evidence that he's lied.

<sarcasm on>And isn't circumstantial evidence good enough in today's dirty pool politics? </sarcasm>

I don't understand this double standard. Bushco can call anyone a liar, 'pugs can call anyone a liar, the media can call anyone but the bushco administration a liar, and the same rule applies for democrats and independents as well.

Naturally the parties won't call their own people liars, but it appears that Democrats are self-censoring themselves on using this particular word. I've read numerous statements and op/ed articles that indirectly call Shrub and company liars, and I've seen some fancy foot work to avoid the word but still hint at an accusation of lying, but the word liar is avoided.

What the hell happened? Can someone explain this to me? I've gone over it myself and I can't find one good reason for this odd censorship with the word. Maybe I'm confused by the polls... but it seems that a chunk of the fire that fueled the party from the primaries is sputtering out, and a word like liar would come in very handy, but our heavy weights avoid the term. We need to get energized again and stay energized. I understand that these things will swing back and forth, but we should be working right not to take the swing back in our favor and keep it swinging back to us. If they get an inch, then we take two back.

I say call shrub a liar often and loud. Take a page from Rove and keep saying it over and over and over until it sticks. There is absolutely no reason to not learn from our adversaries and use their own tools against them. If they are going to lie with FUD then we should tell the truth with FUD.

(for those of you who don't know what FUD is: http://info.astrian.net/jargon/terms/f/FUD.html)

(I hope this doesn't get canned because I used the "L" word in the same sentence as shrub)

1. the reluctance of politicians to use the word liar is because of the
fact that so many of them are liars themselves.

2. Lies lies lies lies yeah.
Both sides used to have the attitude that the others were wrong about how they went about it, but were trying to do the best for the country. Now, people like rush, coulter, and o'reilley are convincing their followers that "libruls" are out to destroy this country. It makes no sense when you think about it, what would anyone have to gain by destroying their country? But by hammering it in constantly, people get convinced. Another application of Nixon's "Big Lie." The only way to fight this pervasive and coordinated campaign to objectify and vilify a political position and anyone associated with it is to constantly call them on it. Show them to be liars! Expose them for all the country to see!
