How is Howard Dean related to the former Dean Witter Investment Company?

In doing independent search on Dean Witter.......I don't find a connection. Can someone help me out about what the tie is? My search says Dean Witter started the company with family members. Their last name wasn't Dean. So where does Howard Dean fit in?

Anyone know?

3. Dean Witter is a first and last name of fellow born in 1887

Dean Witter was born in Wausau, Wisconsin in 1887. He moved to California with his family in 1891, and after purchasing country land tracts in various areas of the state, the family moved to San Carlos on the Peninsula and eventually settled in Berkeley.


Dean Witter graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1909, and from 1909 worked for Louis Sloss & Company as a salesman on the California coast. With Charles Blyth he started Blyth, Witter & Company in 1914 and the two men ran the company until 1924, when he launched Dean Witter & Company with his brother Guy, cousins Jean and Ed Witter and their brother-in-law, Fritz Janney.
The San Francisco office of Dean Witter, located at 45 Montgomery Street,
was company headquarters; the business expanded greatly over the
years, partly through mergers. At the time of Witter's death in 1969
there were nearly 80 branches of Dean Witter & Co. in the U.S. and Canada and the company was the largest investment house on the West Coast.

Dean Witter interrupted his career to volunteer for duty in both World War I and World War II, during which he attained the rank of colonel.

5. Did anyone else hear it mentioned that there was a connection to

the Dean Witter Investment Company and that he had lots of family money because of this? I remember something about this early on.....and I'm sure I heard it more than once.

I'm not coming up with the connection. What did his father do? Does anyone know?

I *believe* his father worked at one time for the Dean Witter Co., but as the previous poster mentioned, he is not the "dean" in "dean witter".

7. Somebody posted something earlier today

from Time (or Newsweek) showing profiles of both * and Dean and pointing out the similarities (both Yalies, both raised Repuke, both stopped drinking, what their father's/grandfather's did). This profile said that Dean's father was an "executive" with Dean Witter.

9. Thanks Nanny and others....I need to get Time/Newsweek and read it. But,

if his father worked for Dean Witter, is it possible there is a family connection.....I'm trying to track this down.

If anyone knows please post.........anything that I might not know that was in the Time/Newsweek articles that I could search for.

the candidates. If we don't know.......the press will dig it out and distort it.

By know we know that all of our Democratic Candidates have been searched by the armies of researchers in the Media Whore operations and probably by Karl Rove and Ashcroft's fanantics.

At some point they will unleash their tidbits and spin and distort truths into ugliness. If we don't know everything and can counteract it then they will "win."

I contacted the person who wrote the article at www.georgiafordean.com that I referenced previously.This person agreed that the language was in error. It has now been corrected.

So to reiterate: Dean's father worked AT Dean Witter, but it is not a family relationship.
