As I've said in another thread, I don't think he's a good choice. We really need a dynamic VP candidate, which Gep ISN'T. He's boring, and I'm not sure he can even deliver Missouri.

Gephardt has strong ties to labor and went against Clinton on NAFTA. His connection with organized labor is why I like him - out of the major candidates I wanted him to win the presidential nomination the most. He is a church-going Midwesterner, his father was a Teamster. He is Mr. Average American, but he strongly supports labor and a progressive agenda. Putting aside policy, people in LA or San Francisco or New York might prefer a "sexier" candidate, but I think a plainspoken working class Midwesterner might go down better in the battleground Midwesterner states. And due to his strong labor times, I like him.

Kerry should pick either Dean or Edwards. Dean, because he energizes the youth vote and can motivate people. Edwards, because he's a good speaker and for geographical reasons.

I voted 'absolutely support' above because I think Gephardt is a good choice. He's known more than anything, and maybe anyone, as someone who looks out for the working man. That's a real good thing in the context of an outsourcing jobless recovery. Beyond that is simple ABB. I didn't really even have to think about the question.

He's not my first choice though.

I'm surprised that more Democrats, even after Richard Clarke, still don't seem to understand how important Bush's abject failure to attend to threats of domestic terrorism before 9/11 is to this election.

It's not an easy issue to attack. The one person both able and unafraid to go after this issue, and that includes Kerry himself, is Wesley Clark. He showed that before there was any cover fire, and he does it very well. I don't think I can overstate this.
