Why is Al Gore teasing us like this?
I don't get it. He comes out here and there, says all the right things, could beat Bush back into the Texas cave that he crawled from, but refuses to get involved.

While I agree that every voice of dissent out there is needed. I also think that if you can't stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen. I am tired of being teased by this man. Al, your love hurts.

1. I thought he did a wondeful thing
Why can't you just accept the gift and not turn it into a disappointment? We have enough of those.

2. LG, who will say these things and get the attention he does?
I have been waiting for a President Gore since 1988, when it was his love for the environment that caught my attention. Every speech he gives makes me sad he is not in office....but who will say it but him? The candidates all contain bits and peices of his thinking but none of them can state it all safely, Gore can.

3. So why doesn't he run?
It doesn't matter what he says anymore, because the media is treating him as irrelevant. He would quickly lose his irrelevancy if he came back into the fray.

6. I wish he would
even though to some people, working for a Gore draft or even talking with regret about him not running, is sacriligious.

5. I agree...Gore is doing this FOR the Dems.
The candidates are being treated merely as political opponents by the media. Gore is speaking as an established statesman and his words will more likely be heard. He is keenly aware that Bush gets away with what he does because it is all about what the media will do with what is said.

Gore is doing a great service to the Dems and for whoever he eventually endorses.

4. I think that it was great.

Any needling that Al Gore can do to Emperor Chimpy to give him a case of red-ass is a great thing.

Now Chimpy can either remark on it, and refute the charges...which will make him look like more of a lying ass, or he can pretend that he hasn't heard the shot across his bow which will make him look like the the biggest dipshit in Washington ...or on his soundstage in Crawford.

In the immortal words of His Fraudulency: bring em' on.

8. He will work to get a Democrat back in the WH in '04
I don't blame him for not wanting to subject himself and his family to karl rove, ruppert murdoch, limbaugh, hannity, o'reilly, brit hume, ann coulter, and on and on. Those people are pure evil, and they have done their job, keeping Gore from running. However, he apparently is not going to sit idly by. I look forward to his contributions in the next year.

Well said, BOSSHOG
And I agree wholeheartedly!

(though I must confess to a certain disappointment that he allowed the DLC to drive him out, so it appears anyway)

But you said what needs to be said, BOSS.

19. But
But really, what would the talking shrunken heads have to say this time around? Nything they could remotely conceieve of trying to "pin" or Gore would look mild compared to Bush. I mean, really? What are they going to point to? His record? His fundraising? What? What is there that Gore should fear?

11. With all due respect, Gore is an intelligent man who realizes that he
could hinder the chances of seeing a Democratic President in 2004. I know far too many fence sitters who cannot stand the man. I thought those were the votes that the party needed. The rest of us Democrats are supposed to vote Democrat even if we have to hold our noses to do it. 2000 was a debacle, unfair as it was to Gore, and now we need to attack the 2004 elections with a fresh face. I think you are all teasing yourselves.

I know a lot of fence sitters who wish they had a second chance to vote for him. I guess my fence sitters cancel out yours.

20. Lighten up, make a strong case for yourself and people might listen, but
saying" Bite me?" That's something my children would do. Your immaturity is amazing. As for Gore, I respect him, but I am fast losing respect for his supporters after reading a few posts. Not all of them, of course. I still say, and will always say, put Gore in, lose the election. At least he is smart enough to realize that. He is a credit to the Democratic Party with his support, end of story.

He said no.

Not maybe.

Not "I'll think it over."

Not "I am pooling opinions."

He said NO.

And as has been established thoroughly in the thread about rape, NO means NO!

21. He has, in fact, set himself up
as the perfect foil to help the Dem win.

He gets to frame the debate, bring up issues, and slam the current illegal occupation at the White House and any guns the Republican's figuratively aim at him are useless because he has nothing to lose.

The current candidates can then espouse on these issues under the guise of addressing what Gore said and avoid some full frontal assault that way.

I was hoping he would start speaking out about issues months ago but I'm glad he's doing it now.
