Need info/links on pro-choice charities.

I'm doing some research to debunk a pro-lifer's claim that their side does more to help pregnant women and their children than the pro-choice side does.

2. A Question

Why should it make any difference in the world WHO helps pregnant women and their children more?

Isn't it simply enough that organizations which label themselves as "pro-choice" and organizations which label themselves "pro-life" BOTH help pregnant women and their children??

I honestly do not see why people on either side of the abortion debate argue over which side helps pregnangt women and their children more.

It seems to me that that entire discussion does more to divide -- and demonize -- than it does not unite and reconcile.

And that's a real shame, imho.

3. It's not a question of who helps more

I'm helping someone deal with the accusation that pro-choice advocates don't actually care about what happens after the baby is born; that they do nothing to help mothers that choose to have their child. They only care about those who have abortions. It was the pro-life side that brought this into the argument. I just need some defense.

I didn't intend for this to turn into a debate. If you don't have anything to help me, that's okay. But, you and I have debated this before, and neither of us is going to change the other's mind.

4. I'm Really Not Trying To Change Your Mind

But I really do not understand why folks get into the discussion about whether or not "pro-life" or "pro-choice" folks do or do not help pregnant women, their children, or women after their children are born.

That whole discussion, in my view, is little more than an effort to demonize people who hold a different point of view on the abortion debate.

And both sides of the debate do it.

And all it does is to convince people on the other side of the debate of the evil nature of the good-hearted, well-intentioned people they disagree with.

It just seems so unneccessarily divisive to me.

I think the fact is that both pro-life and pro-choice people and organizations help women -- both pregnant and not -- as well as their children.

Why can't all sides in the discussion simply agree to that fact and move on to discuss the things they do agree on??

The issue of abortion is divisive, no matter how you look at it. I don't think there can really be common ground. I do feel it is okay to defend oneself when accusations such as those I'm defending against are presented.

I just wanted to share with you a few thoughts of my own, and I sincerely hope I did not offend. It was not my intention to do so.

I'll simply leave you with one final thought -- and it is this -- you may be surprized to discover (as I have) that there is really a lot more common ground when it comes to the issue of abortion than you might think. My own experience is that when I look for common ground, it may take some time and some effort, but it usually shows up -- sometimes quite unexpectedly.
