We are not competent enough to be savior of the world. Our motives in being in Iraq and other countries are not pure. People in many other parts of the world hate us.
Today's events in Iraq were enough for me. Non-military people were blown up, flamed, cut up and hung on bridges. I don't know who they were but I do know that this is no way to treat other human beings.
Whether we deserved this or not is not the question. We are dealing with barbarians who have no respect for the sanctity of life...live bodies or dead. Defacing them seems to be the order of the day.
I, for one, am disgusted, revolted and in despair. Enough of this! There is no excuse for this crap. We should pull our troops and people and money out of every country that violates the basics of human dignity. We should get the hell out, pull up the bridge, man the fortress and take care of our own problems (which are many).
The problems of people who abuse women, cut off peoples' ears and arms and worse are beyond us to solve. I do not know how to speak to a boy who drags a corpse through the streets, mutilates it, and cheers while it is hung on a bridge. I do not know how to communicate with someone like that, and I am convinced that my government knows less about how to reach such a person. It is time for us to care for our own problems, to get out of the rest of the world's hair.
I don't want my tax money to go to barbarians, oil barons, friends of the US who brutalize their own, friends of the US who brutalize others. I want to live in a peaceful, decent, society here, and if we don't spend some effort in our own backyard, we won't have it.
