when I know that, if I were in his shoes, I would be thinking about running every day, biding my time, watching the polls. And if the circumstances called for it, if there was no legitimate reason to stay out, I would jump right in. But I would prepare for it cautiously, quietly.

I would give speeches, say the things that no one is saying, get them off my chest, while burning inside from the unending Bush misery and chaos.

Can you imagine Al Gore refusing the call of his party if no clear candidate emerged from the pack? I don't think so.

Remember, this man has grandchildren. He is VERY concerned about their future in a world of global warming and unending war. And if he sees himself as their sole protector, he will do what is necessary.

2. He said no
and he's not electable.

Plus you have several excellent choices instead, that ARE electable.

So I don't know why it's even a topic of conversation.

Instant replays only work in sports.

3. Yeah he said no
And it still pisses me off. But Al can win in 2004. It would help a helluva lot if he would get over Monica And ask the Big Dog to campaign for him. IF he was to run.

4. Gore campaigning in 04
and especially with Clinton 'helping' him (calling him the 'big dog' is disasterous btw) would ensure Bush's election.

8. Hey, getting hot in here
I'm Not against any of the candidates, hell I'll even hold my nose and vote for Joe if that's what it takes. I just can't understand why some folks here hate Al so much.

7. Do you guys think the media would give him the light of day?
I don't think he would win...for whatever reason the "liberal" media despised him in 2000. If he were to change course and run now that Bush's reelect numbers are lower, we would just get more Gore the liar, waffler, power-hungery, politician.

9. Ah, c'mon. . .
Gore is NOT running. If for no other reason than there would be endless clips of him in a hot tub with "Joe Lieberman" on SNL. His appearance on SNL was his own little Gore Declaration of Independence from politics. A "screw you" to all the pundits and the misrepresentations and spin. I never liked him more, but he ain't running.

10. He Might
But look at the mess that will be left to clean up. Wow it's a whopper! Just might make him leary. I hope you're right. But I like to think he's ticked off and shaking his at sheer arrogant stupidity of Georgie Boy!

16. Some are so afraid of how the media will portray Gore...

...not realizing that they'll treat any Dem that way.

- It amazes me that some of you still don't get that the majority of the media (with more to come) is owned by conservative interests. They DON'T want Democrats in power to spend our money on people instead of corporations. They'll attack any and all Democrats just as they attacked Gore in 2000. The corporate mentality media has given Bush* a free ride through dozens of scandals...there's a good chance they will continue to prop him up during the 2004 campaign.

- The bottom line is that you shouldn't let the media choose a candidate FOR you. And that's exactly what you're doing if disregard a candidate because of how the media treats them. The New Corporate Media will never back a Democratic candidate...and will attack them relentlessly until they agree to tow the corporate line. That's why the RWing media seldom attacks a candidate like Lieberman. They know won't work against their interests.

- It's frightening that so many Americans don't seem to feel a sense of loss or anger over what happened in 2000. It's as if they don't understand that Gore was prevented from taking office...not because he lost...but because a conservative stacked supreme court illegally stopped a legally mandated recount.

- The 80s and 90s seems to have brought us a generation of politically illiterate, 'get over it, move on, lazy citizens who can barely spell Democracy and have no concept of why free and fair elections are important to keep it intact.

- Gore should run again for the SAKE of Democracy...and to let the Bushies know that they can't easily ruin our country and get away with it without a fight.

18. Every time I send a donation to DNC
or any other organization, I write a little note telling them that if they get Al Gore back in the race they will get a check for twice the amount.

I think Gore running is the only way to do what is right for democracy. I also think he is the Democrat with the best chance to win, regardless of the media. The media will rip apart any democrat.

What matters is what we do in response. A Gore campaign, or any democratic campaign is going to have to be about democrats being solid. By that I mean us at DU, other liberal and moderate democratic organizations, the politicians (at all levels of the party, including all the other candidates who lost the nomination.
No matter who the democratic candidate is, any politician who does not actively defend and campaign for the winner is a piece of shit greedy self promoter and unworthy of further party support.
