And why? Because as this is a free for all recall election, he does not need to win a primary election, which would require appeasing the base of the Republican Party. In California that is very rich people in Orange County, religious conservatives and rednecks in the Central Valley and up in Redwood Country (who are offset by a large number of ex-hippies and environmentalists). He will be entirely self-funded and won't have to troll for money among these groups either. He may win, and within a very short amount of time Republican conservatives may deeply regret having backed him, as Ann Coulter hinted tonight on H&C. What happens in 2006 when he has to get elected in his own right is another question.
