The 'Republican Revolution' is more than just a slogan

- It took the RWingers THIRTY YEARS of planning for the day when they would control all three houses of government, courts and media. They're not about to let some silly election get in the way of their 'Republican Revolution' now that they've finally accomplished their goal.

- RWing Republicans have been successful because they don't let the rule or law or democracy interfere with their plans. They really do believe that the end justifies the means.

- They will pay the free press to lie for them. They will rig elections and keep Americans from voting. They will lie, cheat and steal and rationalize that it was all worth it for a 'higher cause'.

- More and more Democrats are finally starting to 'get it'. Democrats need to attack the Bush* regime from all sides...and not depend on a broken election and justice system to save the day.

1. And they want to destroy the Democratic party-
Edited on Wed Aug-06-03 10:51 PM by Redleg
it's not enough for them to beat us in elections, they want to destroy the Dem party as an effective opposition party. It will be damned hard for us to overcome the position we have been put in (or allowed ourselves to fall into).

2. I agree. Note, this is a takeover by economic interests/robber barons.
And the economic interests had to use the Republican Party as their primary vehicle because Democrats do a better job of limiting the power of the robber barons in our own party.

If we don't win this election in 2004, there *will* be another Great Depression. And I don't want to think about what will happen if Republicans (Read: economic interests/robber barons/big corporations) successfully take away our voting rights and free speech.

7. Attacks are not enough -- small time thinking
The GOP starting with Goldwater, sat down and came up with a massive plan of takeover which started with think tanks, talk radio, conservative press, "working the refs" by accusing the mainstream media of being liberal, dirty tactics, etc etc. They built a monstrous machine, which we must find a way to defeat by coming up with a master plan, or the Democratic Party will be history. It doesn't matter that more than 50% of the electorate is Dem -- the game is rigged against us on so many levels, and I'm not talking about tin foil stuff, a Marxist revolution, or the voting machines. The system of itself, starting with the electoral system that overwhelmingly favors red states (giving the south way too much power); corporate media conglomerates i.e. Clear Channel etc -- all of this is out in the open. We need to reform the entire electoral process first and foremost, which starts with the electoral college, redistricting rules, CFR, and corporate media conglomerates. Only then can we think about policy, because if we can't get elected we can't enact policy. The only way we can win is if the game is fair or else we'll constantly be on defense, fighting our way just to get to get a place at the table, just to pull even .. much less advance any policy.

8. you raised an good point
actually...you raised a lot of good points, but the one I have a question about is the electoral college....

does anybody remember all the talk about reforming the EC after the 2000 debacle? Nobody (congress)never did anything right?

9. Not that I'm aware of
and until the electoral college system is abolished and we go to a straight popular vote for Presidential elections, a vote in California will be worth 1/3 of what a vote is worth in Wyoming.

The census will never accurately record traditional Dem constituencies like minorities, the poor, and urban areas, which means we Democrats will always be underrepresented. Take the 2000 census: Blue states lost 7 electoral votes, even though those states really gained in population.

If Bush were to win the same states in 2004 he did in 2000, he would have 278 electoral votes instead of the 271 he received in 2000. The popular vote is the only way to ensure a fair electoral system. All power in this country is determined by which party has the Executive branch. It's an avalanche effect. The President appoints the judges -- gains control of the Judicial branch. Look what's happening with redistricting in Texas -- that is a Whitehouse operation. If they keep gerrymandering we will continue to lose seats. There goes the Legislative branch. Like I said, avalanche effect that all starts with the electoral college system of electing a president.

10. It's better to be nice and lose than to look bad and win
That's the losing strategy of many Democrats today.
