I smell a rat re: tonight's press conference.
Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 11:38 AM by benburch
Folks,

Something really stinks about this press conference;

1. It is at a weird time.
2. It seems we have been looking for WMDs in the same way that kids look for easter eggs on Easter; looking for things our side previously planted there.
3. Bush really needs a huge distraction now.

No matter what happens, expect a few things;

1. You will hear the odd speech patterns caused by him being fed answers through his ear bug.
2. He will be lying.
3. He will take no blame for ANYTHING.

1. I've been thinking the same thing.
I can't imagine what political calculations lead them to think that a primetime press conference would be better than not speaking at all, being that we all know how well he does in this setting.

If he really wanted to address the Iraq/9-11 crises, he could have done an Oval Office address.

Something's really weird about this...

Sorry. I am well aware of how you might be feeling right now, as are most of the rest of us here, (the ones that "live, breathe and eat politics").

21. How can this happen?
It's like we are in a dictatorship and the media is controlled.

I am so disillusioned I cannot put it into words.

I hope you did not take my "live, breathe and eat politics" in the other post as an insult.

I just got into politics when I switched from a Republican to a Democrat in 1999. Until than I was just blindly voting Republican because my dad ingrained it into me and I was not paying close attention.

I was one of the naive and gullible pod people back than.
The ones that make me sick now.... and might keep that moron and his racist, war mongering cronies in power this November.

22. It happens because we, as a nation were alseep.
We were asleep and were being fed a nice dream;

1. No taxes.
2. Prosperity.
3. Cheap Oil.
4. Safety.
5. Family values.

And it has become a nightmare when we awoke and saw that what we really got while we were sleeping was the exact opposite.

23. ummm, yes.....
and no I did not take "live, breathe and eat politics" as an insult, nor I am sure did anyone else.

Don't feel bad, many of us are guilty of falling asleep at the wheel and letting our "democracy" slip through our fingers.

And don't feel alone, we are all still fighting with "how can this be happening" feelings?

5. It's a sham, according to CNN
Of course, they didn't put it in those words. But just now, not two minutes ago, Wolf Bushler asked the WH correspondence about the odd time, etc, of the conference, and if it was seen as a "political move." She pointed out the the president will have a seating chart because "there are certain reporters he wants to ask questions."

F*cking A. A total con job. Another scripted BS session from the moran in chief. I am SOOO disgusted.

and it's more effective for them than a regular address from the Oval Office - gives the appearance of legitimacy because shrub has to answer 'questions'. Most of the American public will watch not knowing the whole thing is a political commercial.

16. Cheny will be in the back room speaking into bushler's ear piece.
Be ready for a giant prevarication bomb to drop, however.

Maybe they will finally trot out al CIAda chief Osama who they have had on ice until they really, really needed him.

13. I think they are taping the press conference this afternoon and will play
it after Bush gives his live speech. So they can edit out his flub ups.

A CNN commentator yesterday "slipped" and said the President will be preparing for his press conference tomorrow "afternoon" to be broadcast in prime time tomorrow night.

Now maybe the commentator just flubbed it up (it was CNN, known for getting stuff wrong lately), but that's what I heard her say.

19. Even though I don't expect much, I'll watch.
Yes, it will be choreographed, rehearsed, taped & edited. The commentators will praise him unless he starts growling, chewing on the podium & messing himself.

But it will still be an effort for the little guy. He'll still be angry he's been forced to do it. He won't enjoy it at all.

I remember JFK's press conferences. The reporters crowded him in a noisy mob, yelling questions. They got quick answers, often with an edge of wit.

24. Maybe Cheney's the one arranging the reporters in JUST such a way....
so that the assassin's bullet will have a clear shot at George's skull. I certainly wouldn't put it past Ol' Pacemaker Crashcart to do such a thing....Mind you, this is NOT "wishful" thinking. I do NOT want this to happen AT ALL! pure speculation on my part, good folks of the DOJ! (sweating profusely)

Or maybe Bush is going to resign (cross fingers). Either way, that photo reminds me of Steve Martin's bit about feeling sorry for Nixon....Dick in his bermuda shorts, prowling the beaches of San Clemente with a metal detector.....

25. This is a campaign stop, nothing more.
His numbers are falling and he needs to get his face into the media and blather away. He'll perform like a moron, he'll stutter, he'll be incoherent, and the press will go away and say he made a "great case".

26. Last one was choreographed
I think they knew ahead of time who he'd call on, and the questions were laughably softball (i.e., April Ryan asking Bush how his faith helped him in his work). I doubt we'll hear from Al-Jazeera or even Helen Thomas!
