August in Texas re: Shrubs' obsession with vacationing here
Most Texans I know who can, try to leave the state in the month of August! It's the worst month temp. wise! Only those who have to work outside do, as far as I know. Who in their "right" mind would even consider clearing brush, not that I think he actually does that!, in this heat? (Photo op anyone?) Unless you actually have to be outside in this sweatbox, i.e. a real job and have no choice, most don't!

I don't even do yardwork - I pay someone. Once it cools off then I'll go out again. Just another indication chimpy is a total idiot. He thinks it's "manly" or something - maintain that rugged mistique. I noticed a tractor strategically placed behind a reporter yesterday - I feel sorry for them (wait a minute, no I don't).

9. Actually it's the perfect way to keep the press at bay while planning
covert operations. They HATE Crawford! In fact, at the end of Bush's last public press conference he said, "....and for those of you who are lucky enough to follow me to Crawford, I'll see you there". (paraphrase).

35. Actually, I think this term is older than Bush's stay in the WH....
The term was originally used during the Reagan administration when Reagan stayed at his place in Santa Barbara, CA. The use of this term by the Bushies is, I think, meant to harken back to the good ol' days of Ronnie Raygun.

Cheers.

20. That has always angered me. The White House is in D.C.
The people provide it to the U.S. president.

That ranch has NOTHING to do with the White House, and I get very angry every time I see that arrogant sign.

George Bush is not America. His ranch is not the White House.

And he cannot excuse the amount of leisure time he spends on the ranch by putting up that moronic sign.

22. Doncha ya know?
By Shrub saying his pig farm is the Western WH, allows him to write off his expenses to the 'Murican' People? There is a method to his madness! The Bushes only keep residences in Tx for tax purposes! It's always been that way for them! Even at that, Shrub as Gov managed to get his taxes on a compound on Lake Travis that he shared with others, reduced! I forget how he did it, but in essence, he had a 1200 acre resort property that he paid minimal taxes on. Actually, he paid less for that property than my husband and I do for our minuscule neighborhood lot! Nice huh?

10. Where else can he go?
Camp David?...Kennebunkport? That's about it. Who wants him? NOBODY wants him! (Only exception: to accept an invite from a rich Republican donor to stay behind a walled compound on a huge estate-with a golf course and full amenities.)

Otherwise, if he were to show up anywhere in the world on "holiday"...he'd be met with protestors galore. So, Shrub retreats to his remote pig farm. There he can pursue his 'country gentleman' pursuits undisturbed by outsiders. (Remember, Adolf Hitler had his own isolated retreat, too!)

Funny thing...Bill and Hillary never had this problem. They could go everywhere! Cheering throngs met them at every turn!

Gosh, to have a leader who doesn't have to run and hide...or, who only appears at selective "photo ops". Sigh.

17. George is a simpleton with a mean streak a mile wide!
Abe Lincoln was a simple man! Shrub is not Lincoln! Shrub is an elitist snob! I read once where Prescott Bush taught his heirs to have great disdain for the working class! That the great unwashed were merely on earth to serve the forunate few. Given what the modern day Bushes' are like, I think that is certainly true! The Bushes' only hold public office to further their power and more, their personal wealth at the expense of the "common" people! The Bushes' are the ones who hate 'Muricans! Isn't that obvious to some and should be to all Americans?

30. While I LOVE Abe Lincoln...
he was not as 'simple' as history portrayes him.

Besides being earnest, intelligent and a pretty good country lawyer, he still liked the amenities that came with the WH.

Old Abe was going to make sure he'd never be dirt poor again. As honest as the day is long, he was pretty shrewd in many of his business deals.

A HUGE difference between bush and Lincoln, is that Lincoln didn't have any rich relatives to bail him out of really bad business decisions.......and the fact that Abe took responsiblility for what he said and did, regardless of the consequences.

bush is a dud as a president, a governor, a businessman, a father, and as a human being. He rates slightly below a slug IMHO.

33. Funny, how he didn't get an invite from Ken Lay. Or, did he?
Although, Bush / Lay reminds me of Nixon and Bebee Rebozo. Tricky Dicky just couldn't stay away from his buddy's house in Key Biscayne Florida. Is George Bush just as compulsive?

If so, when and where does George rendezvous with Ken? Enquiring DU'ers want to know!

24. he's not a real Texan! He's appropriating an image that isn't his!
The GOP love to say Hillary is a carpetbagger, but George W. is a far more fitting example of that. By definition a carpetbagger is out to exploit, and that's what Bush has been doing. He was born on the east coast and his family moved to Texas. By the time he ran for Congress in the 1970s, he'd probably spent more time at Andover, Yale, and Harvard than actually living in Texas (let alone in Midland, where he claims he wants to be buried after he dies!).

After losing, he remade his image, in the hopes people would think he was an actual Texan who had worked his way up from humble beginnings. I don't think it's a coincidence that he glommed onto a state that has a proud history and is well-known, not just in the US but around the world.

He and his buddies swindled the local people so they could get that stadium built -- essential to build up his profile. He did things that were tailored to make him look good without actually doing anything (e.g. marketing himself as "the Education Governor" while cutting funding and teachers). And once he had convinced people elsewhere in the country that he was "Texan", mission accomplished. The "ranch" (which he bought for his campaign) is a prop. And so is the rest of the state, as far as he's concerned.

Bush figures he can go out for a run at noon in the heat of the sun, just to show how tough he is. He can go back inside for cool drinks, of course -- never mind the people in inner-city Houston or Dallas who can't afford air conditioning. Or the farmers who have to cope with drought and extreme weather -- Bush's standard response is to tell them to pray! (And never mind that global warming would make all that much worse.)

I suspect he has "personalized" Texas -- he says he loves it, but really it's only the part which reflects positively on himself. I don't see him fretting about pollution, or urban sprawl, or poverty, or any of the problems which the Texans I know are concerned about.

could we bury him there before he dies?

Seems to me, that site would be quite lush, considering all of the bs that would be there.

29. Ahhh!!! Those 110 degree days and 90 degree nights!
I lived in Central East Texas for 5 years.

August in Texas is about as close to Hell on Earth as is possible.

I understand that one of *'s favorite pastimes is brush-clearing!

34. It just shows
what a mean, ugly, small-minded, little prick of a man he is. In his cocaine-fried brain he somehow thinks he's punishing the "liberal" D.C. media establishment by making them come to Texas in August, which is definitely the most goddam awful month to be in Texas.

Nevertheless, I make no apoligies for the rim-jobbing media that are holed up at the beautiful Waco Hilton. They deserve it for their unquestioning loyalty to the poser in residence down at the Lazy W pig farm.
