I was discussing some of the world events with my sister today. She watches Pat Robertson's pretty regularly, and her husband bought into the Bush campaign in 2000 because of his strong anti-abortion beliefs.

But now, given the deficit, the war, the frightening outsourcing of jobs overseas, his six-figure losses in his company retirement account, abortion isn't the driving issue anymore. They both have decided that we need to elect a "more socialist government". Yep, the angry white male in suburban Houston Texas is abandoning DimSon.

Carville is sooooo right. It's the economy, stupid.

I know a lot of people who are socially conservative and fiscally liberal- populists. In fact, I think populist is the largest ideology in the U.S.

But when bad economic times come, people vote based on their "fiscally liberal" side.

Clinton gave us time to debate such topics as the value and ethics of abortion? Or, what the definition of sex and the word is is? Now more important topics of real life and death issues are here thanks to Bush. It is my opinion that Conservatives can only tear things down and survive because on a wonderful world that they have no part in building.

Great point. My dh and I wonder why we bother going to the polls at all in Texas. I guess it is just to let the Party know we haven't all died.

A number of years ago after a midterm election, I checked the polling results for our precinct. There were 500 (give or take 1 or 2) votes cast. Five, including my husband and me, voted Democratic. No wonder this is such a backasswards town.
