There is no criminal charge for lying and the priest wasn't actually charged with anything. Perhaps the person who madethe false accusation could just be publically humiliated. :evilgrin:

he was accused, basically anonymously

so that is good. True the priest wasn't charged. There really isn't legal (criminal) recourse for this.

will keep the innuendo alive to smear gays. Even though the charges were transparently false, the damage has - to some extent been - done. The wink-and-a-nod attitude will prevail. I fully expect Jackass Jerry to make comments along the line of "well, he wasn't exactly cleared...the accusations were dismissed by the other gay bishops (etc, etc)."
