I've been trying to avoid the Arnold crap as much as possible...
Has Maria Shriver made any appearances with Arnold??

I know that Teddy Kennedy has already come out and said he wouldn't support Arnold if he ran...this was within the last couple of months, I think.

Also, the Dems need to create a VERY SIMPLY FLOW CHART on how Pete Wilson (Republican deregulation/power) set up the situation which enabled Enron to screw CA, and how Bush refused Davis' call for help after CA found that Enron was manipulating the supply of electricity (rolling blackouts when the price dropped, turned it on when the market went up). Thus highlighting the manipulation and then tying it to Bush....

It can be very simple, I wish I could do it....That's the only way to make people SEE what's going on.....and keep Davis' personality out of it as much as possible.

whenEVER a LW Hollywood figure speaks out, they're VILIFIED in the media, even by so-called moderates, for daring to enter the fray.

"what RIGHT does a mere entertainer have to inject himherself into the political discourse?"

this vilification went so far as to cost at least two actors series/roles therein: Janeane Garafolo and David Clennon.

where's the outrage over the TOTAL lack of media skepticism over the likes of Mr. Mindless Platitude's campaign?

18. Hold On!!!
To pass a Constitutional amendment you must have ALL of the following:

A)2/3 of the members of the U.S House approve
B)2/3 of the members of the U.S Senate
C)A Presidential Signature
D)38 States (Their Legislatures) must pass the bill
E)The Signature of the 38 Governors

It can be done but it is not that easy!

27. It is difficult, and Thank God!...
there have been hundreds of proposed amendments to the Constituion, and fortunately few have become law, and 1 was repealed by another amendment.

Orin Hatch would prove his lack of sanity if he tried to push through that amendment. Regardless of what side of the political fence one is on, Everyone would meet in the middle on this one. There would be a giveaway of tar and feathers, and Hatch would be pilloried in 30 seconds.

Leave it to a repug to come up with that gem of a proposal....just how stupid is the GOP?

no presidential or gubernatorial signatures needed. the chief executives at both the federal and state levels play no role in passage of constitutional amendments.

14. haven't you heard about Hatch trying to amend the constitution for him?
he's got a deal going where one only has to be a US resident for 20 years, instead of being born here, to be able to run for pres.

I read about it here a few weeks back'

anybody else remember that?

So, it appears that Hatch knew this was coming. However, if the reoukes try to get his amendment going now, the Dems *could* nickname in the "Arnold Amendment". But would they dare to even do that????

21. Cheer up! Arnold's core support is in the 18 - 24 yr old male demographic
that likes slam-bam action movies -- but rarely votes.

Unless Arnold broadens his base -- quickly -- he's headed for a surprise. A surprise that will be unpleasant for him, but pleasant for us.

3. She is at best, dumber than he is! I saw her on HBO- Kidflicks
It was an excellent movie made by a kid throughout the 200- election (Gore, W are featured). The kid asks Shriver to 'splain to him the 2 political parties. "The GOP are for small government and no taxes. The dems are ...uh, ther ...that is...there are many kinds of Democrats - the Clinton Democrats...uh...many kinds.... Next came Carter's wonderful answer. So, believe it or not, Arnuld wears the half brain in the family.

she can't even freakin explain their own party????????? She's a lot dumber than I thought, either that or 17 years of being married to Ahh-nuld and having to explain everything to him in kindergartner's terms has worn off one too many brain cells.

9. She probably didn't want him to run, because she knew
it would cause problems in her family since Senator Kennedy has publicly said he wouldn't support Ahh-nuld, and other family members, being good Dems, aren't too thrilled with the idea, either. And she knows how the media will play on that and cause trouble in the family.

11. Worse, she has seen political assassination in her own family
and her father had to step in as McGovern's running mate after the Republicans' disgraceful smear of Thomas Eagleton, McGovern's original VP choice. And if the rumors of Arnold being unfaithful prove true, she will have to endure everything Hillary did and more.

I feel sorry for her.

15. Most assassination targets are liberals..
:(..there have been very few conservatives killed for their beliefs.. but lots of liberals died for theirs..:(

The guy who shot Reagan was looking to catch the attention of a celebrity, so I do not even consider that a true "assassination attempt"..

The only conservative attempt that even comes to mind was Wallace..

Liberals do not seem to survive either :(

16. From day one...
I had always thought that Arnold was one deeply ambitious, calculating guy whose desire to marry into one of the US's premire political families was equal to his love of Maria.

He has wanted this for a very, very long time. I too thank our forefathers that a naturalized citizen can't be President, 'cause Arnold has every desire to make it to the Oval Office.

Could well be that he is as you say, as much Calculator as Terminator. He's been flexing his way into power all along; there was his stint as Reagan's fitness ambassador...

I think the clock ticking on his Hollywood career says much about his candidacy.

25. Yup...
the lack of serious box office in his last "Terminator" film showed his days as an action hero are just about over -- and he doesn't have much in the acting talent department to fall back on. Olivier he ain't.

In fact he reminds me very much of a male Madonna -- a mediocre talent combined with an all-consuming ambition.

Not very pretty in either case.

17. I saw Maria and Conan in some archival stuff today...
not much to see...the usual beaming idiocy.

Here's my take on this ridiculous joke.

There will be enough R's on the ticket to ensure none of them will be gov.

There will be an outpouring of info on Enron et al, that helped to ruin the CA economy. (Not necessarily Davis' fault).

The R's will fall flat with Arnold; after all, he's the despised Hollywood archtype; he's married to a Kennedy; he has no plans for the state.

The only people that are for Arnold are the absurd fools that think celebrity actually means something other than notoriety.

The Reagan years will be brought up again. When RR was gov, CA went through the same stuff....worst Gov ever.

The rest of the country really doesn't give a hoot. The other 49 states have enough of a hard time because of bush's excesses, in 3 days this will be a distant memory.

23. Unfortunately, the recall doesn't work that way.
Once a majority of the voters who show up at the polls on October 4th vote on Part I the 'yes, I want to recall Davis' part, then it's simply a MAJORITY vote for Part II, "Who shall be Governor of CA?"

IOW, whoever gets the most votes, D or R, wins. It boggles the mind that someone with Ahnuld's level of name recognition will be running on the ticket. That's why Issa cut his losses today -- he knew that there was no point in wasting more $$$ running against Ahnuld.

If this were a chess game, I'd say it's Davis's move to do the right thing for the party. If he resigns, then they have to call the whole thing off and the state stays in Dem hands. You don't think the phone lines in and out of Sacto aren't buzzing with this same opinion?

It is sickening. But the stakes are just as high -- or even higher -- than with Clinton and his impeachment. Remember, the majority of the voters said Clinton was doing a good job, and really felt this was just Repub smear tactics. Clinton's approval ratings during the entire travesty were never in the toilet like Davis'. He should cut his losses and spare the state more pain. It's not fair, but the bigger injustice would be allowing the Repubs to really get away with stealing CA.

26. I understand what you are saying...
and I agree about the plurality process, (1 vote could turn the whole thing; but not an actual 'majority').

But once this thing gets rolling, (if the current 5 lawsuits are dismissed), there are enough R's, to setting up a situation where AS
might not get that plurality vote.

In any case, there is even a possibility that Davis might not even reach the 50%+ that is needed to remove him.

There are a lot of interesting questions about this whole mess; one of the most important is, what are the real 'motives' for Issa doing this? With his withdrawal....he literally blew $1.5 million on an elusive dream.

19. From the 8/1 edition of the Fix
Arnold Schwarzenegger may have yet to make an official announcement as to whether he'll run for California governor -- that'll come next Wednesday night on the "Tonight Show" -- but Cindy Adams is reporting not only that the actor won't run, but also why. "It's because the one person who wouldn't vote for him is the missus, Maria Shriver, " Adams writes in her New York Post column. "Arnold's had some alleged allegations of allegedly bad-boy behavior. She knows the tabloids have heard it. She knows what happens in politics. She knows that stories might creep out of the woodwork and embarrass the kinfolk, the Kennedys, the kiddies.

31. Arnie will be a neocon puppet boy
They will get him in there as an attempt to get more Rebublican control of the state. This way, they can attempt to pull a "Katherine Harris" type voter scrub or some other scheme to manipulate the elections in 2004.
We already know where they can't win, they cheat and California has a lot of electoral votes up for grabs. I am extremely wary of this situation. It smells really bad.
