Why we are losing
Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 06:50 PM by jiacinto
I think it comes down to two words:

The Media

For every effort or project they spearhead the VWRC has communications and public relations staff working to package the information for the general population.

I think it's that simple. If we were to get our own version of Fox News or perhaps have more of us trained to handle the media we would be able to reverse some of our losses.

What do you think? I have to add a 5th sentence now.

1. Bingo.
Since I am on a Hitler/Nazi kick today. The first thing Hitler destroyed was the free press and instead replaced it with a constant barrage of propaganda as news and this was even before he was able to fully consolidate his power as dictator of the Reich.

3. I agree
The GOP/VRWC control of the media is huge. I think the demographics of this country actually favor the Dems, and we have advantages on so many issues but our lack of a bully pulpit and other access to media outlets hurts us tremendously.

Hit the nail on the head.
The liburul media is grinding us into the dirt with their spin/misinformation machine. Watch how Gore's incredible speech is spun over the next few days. by the time that they are done with him, people will think that he took a crap in the champagne chiller.

12. Yo, Liberal Guerilla---they already have done wose than that........
...they ingorned it completely. Did you see the evening news. they said Gore gave a speech and showed in at the podium BUT NOT ONE WORD WAS BROADCAST--not one. They said he criticized Bush BUT not what he said in particular and then the blather of he will/won't run, blah, blah. He might as well talk to the wall as well as the rest of them. And we don't have near the money to run the ads. Get use to living in the scum country you are now living in and getting worse.

A regular, objective media that just does its job.

8. The "Fourth Estate" has been bought.
Objectivity is gone on a mass scale.

Investigative journalism is shot too, it costs too much so the corporate overlords place info-tainment on just about every channel, it's cheaper and people watch crap..

6. You're right. But what next? Do we buy outlets?
With what money though?

The Media has effectively ceased to be the "Fourth Estate". It is nearly lock stock and barrel under Right wing control.

So once again, where's the mega-money coming from?

My suggestion would be to buy radio stations first but alas even that's a "pie in the sky" idea at this point.

Frankly I don't have a solution...

9. Here is an idea
For every project or effort left wing organization start they hire someone to work on public relations.

As for buying radio stations that sounds like a good idea. Guy James is doing a good service.

10. We need to make the outlets report the truth.
So, in California, maybe it will require another referendum to put up a law up to force the media to report the truth, fairness doctrine or whatever it takes.

7. LOSING????
You people reading/hearing the same news as everyone else?

I think you WANT to lose, and are doing everything in your power to do so.

Snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory.

11. Media always plays what the people want or it thinks it wants.
They do not make news they report news. And it just maybe that half the people in this country like Bush just as they voted. I hate to think that my self but it is in my face.I think we had congress for 40 years so we will be back unless Bush makes a new country and I do think he and Ashcroft are trying.

13. It does NOT come down to two words. And plenty of it is the Dems' own
fault, too -- not just mean tricks played on them by the Republican-Media complex.

Offering nothing of value to the population is a problem. Having no message is a problem. Having no guts & being sell-outs is a problem. Having a lousy or absent political analysis is a problem. Being complicit in most of Bush's crimes is a problem.

That's just for starters.

16. You got it in far fewer than five sentences!
I caught the tail end of Gore's wonderful speech while doing laundry. I change to CNN and all they are talking about is how wonderful Arnold Schwartzenegger is. Not even a mention in the crawler! I have no idea what FAUX did, but it was probably worse.

That is why it is important for us to educate potential voters, and get people to look to other places (the internet, BBC, etc)to find a truly balanced view of what is going on.

18. The right wing has a stranglehold on the media
No wonder it's so hard to get our message out. They wouldn't even cover Gore's speech today, except on Cspan. This is not good. The media needs a makeover.

You're good to go! :-)

P.S. I rarely agree with what you say, Carlos. But in this case, I think you've nailed it.
