Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 07:27 PM by Donny247
Here's a link to the new Edwards ads airing in New Hampshire and Iowa. They are some of the best political ads I've ever seen, and you will instantly be reminded of Bill Clinton/JFK. Edwards has "it"!!

I know I posted a link to these ads yesterday, but I want as many people as possible to see these ads. I get a kick out of showing these ads to my non-political friends and colleagues. They are very impressed and find him instantly likable ("He's kinda like Clinton"). Try it yourself, and you'll see why Edwards is going to soar this fall when more people see him.

5. Edwards is a winner. Those ads are the best I've ever seen.
He really cares about people and it comes through. He doesn't talk down, he talks to.

I was pretty depressed today about Gore not running. I might be getting over that.

3. I'm trying to watch right now
But RealPlayer keeps getting stuck.

Just finished. See what I mean by criticizing * without being negative? Populism, pointing out the differences between * and REAL real Americans.

Go Edwards!

sheesh. it takes more than a nice hairdo and smile to be like bill clinton or jfk. both of them had way more political experience than edwards, before running for pres.

9. He didn't say he was LIKE them.
He didn't call Edwards the next JFK or Clinton.

He said you'd be reminded of them. The youthful look, the way he talks, etc.

18. Nice try, sport
JFK had only minimal experience as a Senator before seeking the presidency, just like Edwards. Edwards will have had as many years in elected office as the chimp did when he was elected.

Also, I'm not saying that Edwards is another Clinton or JFK. After all, Clinton wasn't awesome because he was "the same as Kennedy." He had something unique to offer that was distinct and refreshing, as does Edwards. One thing they all have in common, however, is that they have a positive populism that comes across REALLY well on television, and can frame issues in a simple and direct way that appeals to a wide spectrum of voters. It attracts new voters without alienating others, which is quite unlike Dean's brand of angry populism.

6. Jobs
He's not my guy, but now he's got the best line of the campaign so far I want to export American products, not American jobs. That was the best of the three but I really liked the first one too.

8. My favorite too
If he keeps expanding his message like this, then I think he has a real shot. Whatever connects with the people we will need to win this election, I'm all for it. And if he can get southerners to understand Democrats just want to make their lives better, then that will be icing on the cake.

7. Those are some pretty good ads
From a video geek perspective:

The production quality of the realvideo is the best that I have ever seen. Crystal clear. I have never seen Real Video do that.

The "College" ad has a couple rough audio cuts. They should have done a few more takes of the voice-over or something to avoid the obvious cut-and-paste audio errors.

From the independant voter effectiveness standpoint:

I like the message. Particularly the comparison in backgrounds between Edwards and the <? slandarous adjective ?> Bush.

Edited on Thu Aug-07-03 07:46 PM by tjdee
(that just means you're really smart!)

but, would you happen to know why I keep getting "unable to make connection" error? This happens from time to time with my RealOne player...should I give it up and reinstall it?

13. Just remember....
I never claimed to be smart, just a geek. :)

If you're using a modem. That's probably the problem. It also could well be bandwidth issues on the servers side. I happen to know that MSNBC just showed a news story (if you can call it news, it's more newsertainment) about it at the same time this thread started so they could be getting more hits than they were really prepared to get.

If you are eventually getting through, and the errors are intermittant (in this case) I suspect that it's bandwidth on their end.

10. You're right, they are great ads.
I'm one of those posters who would vote for anyone but *. I'll let everything get processed and see who gets nominated. That winner will get my full support. I do see Edwards as an excellent vice president. Then after the 8 years he's in office, he'll be an excellent president. :)

16. Tried to see these ads
but couldn't get the audio to work. (Yes, I did have the mute turned off, LOL) He picked very good topics though.

BTW, when is the nomination? I thought it was this month - really soon. Anyone know?

Unfortunately I can't vote for any of the Dems, LOL, but I'll be sending the "good vibes." Gotta get Chimpy out. He's one hell of an embarrassing neighbour!

I'm very impressed with what he has to say and the way he's able to say it.

I've sent this on to my circle of Democratic activists.
