Gore Says Bush Has Misled Americans
President Is Criticized Over Iraq, Economy

Former vice president Al Gore issued a broad indictment of President Bush yesterday, accusing the man who narrowly defeated him in 2000 of leading a "systematic effort" to mislead the American people about the war in Iraq, the state of the economy and the future of the global environment.

Bush's aides shrugged off the criticism. "I just dismiss it," White House spokeswoman Claire Buchan said.

Christine Iverson, press secretary at the Republican National Committee, said: "It is almost like he wasn't vice president when terrorists attacked the USS Cole, attacked U.S. military barracks overseas and the World Trade Center the first time. . . .Maybe he's running for president, maybe he's bored. It's hard to tell."

Gore spoke to an enthusiastic audience of mostly young people who were invited by MoveOn.org, which advertises itself as an "online grassroots democracy group." He reiterated that he will not seek the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination but will eventually endorse one of the nine Democrats in the race.



I am so sick and tired of the typical repug reaction to any criticism. Ignore the question and attack the messenger. And I am sick and tired of reporter who let this stuff ride and rarely try to get the person to respond directly to the question.

Iverson, goes on blame Gore for the 3 major terrorist attacks that occurred during his 8 year term. Fair enough. Maybe we should send her a list, starting with 9-11, of all the major terrorist attacks that have occurred, in less than 3 years of W's term? Heck we've already had 2 this week, Jacarta and the Jordanian Embassy in Baghdad.

1. Repubs forget

Clinton responded to each of the attacks in a reasoned, measured way. Clinton responded even among howls of "wag the dog" from the Repubs who were trying to impeach him and the repubs in Congress fought him every inch of the way.

Further, Clinton had intelligence people working on OBL and turned plans and information over to W* when he took office.

4. And those who pushed the Wag the Dog Scenario

ought to be tried for treason. They insisted federal resources be directed to President Clinton's penis and AWAY from work against terrorism. Their anti-american actions in the 90's resulted in the proliferation of and strengthening of the terrorist movement worldwide. President Gore kicked ass yesterday using something conservatives avoid the way vampires avoid light - THE TRUTH.

It would be possible for somone *not* a pathological liar to represent this administration?

Attacks ad hominum, while fun at times, really fall so far short of responding to Gores damning indictment of Bush that reading that response gave me all sorts of trips down the memory lane marked 'Watergate.'

5. foolish strategy for them to bring up the Cole

Because that happened just before the election. BUT when the bushadmin took over several things happened.

They discounted the transition team on terrorism, shelved the big Graham Hart report, and assigned Dick Cheney to head a terrorism task force. All just a scant 3-4 months after the US Cole Bombing...

BUT Cheney never convened a meeting before 911. Even though the US COLE Bombing had just happened. Even after they started getting disturbing enough intel about terrorist chatter to issue a warning to Att Gen Ashcroft to no longer fly commercial flights. Even after more warnings in August. Cheney simply was too busy with his energy task force.

It was the bushadmin that ignored the threat and the example of the USS Cole.

Then, Att. Gen. Ashcroft lowered the priority that the DOJ gave to terrorism from his predecessor - even after Cole and even after his own warning about commercial flights.

In his budget submitted just prior to 911, terrorism wasn't even in the top ten priority areas.


Does the administration really want to go down this road? Especially with the damning missing 28 pages of the 911 Taskforce? Even with the stalling for more than a year to even allow a taskforce to seriously look at the potential problems that led to 911?

6. Are you ready to the biggest response of them all???

C-Span Washington Journal in the last half hour commented as they wade through all the major newspapers in the morning, reading articles, etc. that Gores speech only made it to the front page (bottom, short story of the first page)in the Washington Post AND that it was "buried" in all the other major newspapers in this nation. But I'm sure if Bush takes a dump this afternoon it will be carried live by all major networks................we preach to the choir and even the choir has to go looking for the information or it would pass them right by thanks to our ace media.
