The Dems Have Already Lost The White House in 2004
If their pathetic little performance thus far in the California recall is any indication, they have no hope. Instead of a united front, they are scurrying like rats, trying to save their worthless little hides from the sinking ship. The recall has Rove's fingerprints all over it (why else did Issa bow out yesterday to clear the way for Ah-nuld?). Rove is scum, but he's scum who is a political genius, who can drive wedge issues through the Dems like no one else. Throw up something controversial, and they're like deer looking into the headlights. They didn't learn from the Florida recall, the Iraq vote/war, the 2002 election, and now this Nazi power grab in California. Shameless, hopeless, pathetic.

I defy anyone to offer a ray of hope.

28. negativity will NOT cost us the election
The folks who give up probably were never in the fight to begin with.

Succumbing to negativity might cost us the election.

Seeing negativity for what it is, and stepping over it is what will WIN us the election.

Have you seen Bush's re-elect numbers?

5. I disagree on Rove
Rove is clever, but a tiny bit overworked. Lately he has dropped the ball so many times, I wouldn't predict he could catch a football made of glue.

Do you really think Californians are going to vote for Arnold?
Everyone knows this is Issa's travesty, and everyone watched the snivelling creep walk away from it. That has not even begun to leave the feculent aftertaste in the mouths of the voting public, and the Republican party of CA is, I believe, going down hard on this one.

> Do you really think Californians are going to vote for Arnold?

The testosterone-addled young white male vote will be sufficient.
After all, who elected Jesse "The Body" Ventura, a man almost
completely unqualified by either experience or temperament to
hold public office, Governor of Minnesota?*

Watch for the media to schedule a whole bunch of showings of
"Predator" and "The Running Man" in the near future.

10. California is one of the most overwhelmingly Democratic States
And still the Repukes can cause this.

I'm reading a lot of denial remarks to my post, which is what I expected. Wake up people--the repukes are at least three or four steps ahead of us at every turn! There's no reason for the Repukes to have padded their lead in the House and retaken the Senate in 2002, but the dems fell all over themsleves. It's beacuse they can't uunite on anything, and the recall is the latest indication.

The first step towards recovery is admitting you ahve a problem--face up to it--saying we won't win with this attitude is another indication of denial. realize how the repukes are working, what's wrong with the Dem strategy, and ONLY then can we expect to win. Not by simply wishing for people to vote Dem, which seems to be the case with most Dems in power.

25. Dems far outnumber Repukes
in the voting rolls. They control both house, both senate seats, the majority of Congressional seats...yes, they are overwhlemingly Democratic. If this happens here, imagine what can happen in swing states.

And that's all they needed to get a recall on the ballot. Don't expect us to all have anviety attacks because the Repukes are doing what they always do - cheat and try to overturn legitimate elections.

12. Oh come now.
Though you do have a point about California. They seem to be typically paralyzed.
Tough call. It is another prime example of the Republican effort to dismantle Democracy and the electorial process, and in that regard the Dems are forced to support Davis, but at the same time he is unpopular and not particularly likable from what little I know about CA politics. The thing I wonder about is, why the Dems aren't using this opportunity to really amplify how the energy crisis, manufactured by Oil corp cronies and with the tacit cooperation of Bush administration interests, contibuted to the fiscal crisis? Seems I recall Davis made some bad decisions and the Democratic party really should weigh their options very carefully.

If the Reps claim is Davis should be recalled for poor fiscal management...how much is the US in the hole for under Bush?

13. So what SHOULD have happened?
Maybe if reagan's prop 13 hadn't bankrupted the state when we needed the income the MOST, we wouldn't be in a financial crisis that stretched back to 1978.

Yeah, look into that why doncha, and tell me how the GOP figures into the events of today, factoring in of COURSE, the screwing we got by bush pals GOP whore oil cos from 2000 to 2002. THEN let's chat about Pete Wilsons signing in the deregulation, THEN let's chat about the fukc face who wrote the deregulation proposal. That would be Spence Abrahams.

yeah, it's all the dems fault.

Get back to me on that.

There is hope. The Republicans started the travesty in California, and it is a slap in the face to democracy. That, along with DeLay's travesty in Texas might just unite people against the Republican party in 2004. I'm seriously envying the Parlimentary system right now. I used to jump on people who said that people should earn their right to vote. I think our founders had the right idea. I'm convinced that most Americans are just too ignorant or apathetic and haven't earned the right to democratically elect their representatives. It's not a game or a circus. I cherish my right to vote, and people are pissing it away.

On edit: Oops! Got way off the track. We should NEVER give up until the neo-con stench is removed from power in this country. That attitude isn't going to get us anywhere. We've had crappy leaders before (not this bad, though), and we've booted them. Americans will wake up--hopefully by 2004. Bush will never win the presidency in a fair election. They are going to try and steal it again, but they won't suceed this time.

19. This isn't the first republican dirty trick...
...nor will it be the last. The Impeachment, Florida, Texas Redistricting. It pisses people off, but guess what, they keep on doing it because they know they can! And they're still in power! I'd like to believe this California travesty will galvanize the dems to fight back, but I have yet to see that. If anything, they're running like cowards.

Besides, dems need to keep their eyes open as to what the repukes are doing--the 2004 election is not only about issues--it's about how the repukes are already planning on how to steal it again. face it, they've got plans already, and we naively think we only need to get the most votes.

30. It's just a cycle
Political cycles swing but the Republicans are doing alot of harm.
Only the Freepers think this is a good thing and I would be amazed if they can balance a checkbook. I think the Republicans are over playing the hand dealt and even if the media isnt reporting it, I think the average American feels it.
In fact last night at one of our local neighborhood meetings it was brought up on how many vacant homes we have in our area. We have 2,400 homes and now 70 plus vacant homes. We have never had some a high number before and someone said from the back, its the stupid economy. Another piped in about what Bush is doing to our jobs.
This is a RW state. Almost couldnt be anymore RW and religious.
Give us some credit, we did vote for Gore after all.

31. It's the lack of Leadership
Everyone here should think at least twice about supporting any of the current leaders in the primary.

They are the root of the problem.

To support their canidacy is to enable them to destroy the Democratic Party and progressive politics in America.
