C-Span's Wash. Journal: Brian says only "Wash. Times" has Gore's speech
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 08:29 AM by KoKo01
on front page. "NYT's" and "WP" bury it inside. When he began his "Open Phones" segment he said that the only the Democratic Lines were lit up......none on the Independent or Repug. After the first Dem caller praised C-Span for airing the Gore Speech so much....Brian then said "well now the Republican lines are lit up."

Sure enough the Repugs started trashing the speech and then callers started talking about prescription drugs. At least three or four callers did praise the speech though.

C-Span had the Gore speech replay on at 6:00 a.m. today, so I give them credit for changing their schedule to air it so many times. My own NC paper has the story on Page 10 with excerpts they picked up from the NYT's. They could have done better. My paper is always accused by the Repugs here of being a "liberal rag." Ha! Liberal is in the "eyes of the beholder," as we all know.

Anyone elses paper carry Gore's Speech?

1. and did NPR Morning Edition carry Gore's speech?
I listened on and off this morning and did not hear it. NPR has a lot to atone for with their lack of criticism of the attack on Iraq. Gore covered those issues quite well.

5. NPR is trying to "appease" the republican coontrolled congress
they have come to rely on the "fundiing" and are afraid to speak out against the "master".. The problem is that they are so obvious about it and by doing that they are actually undercutting their reason to even exist.. They are fulfulling the prophecy.. The (R) congress says that they are nothing special and do not even "need" public funding, and as they continue to lose listeners because they are waffling, they only prove them right..

The fundies are sitting on the sidelines just waiting to rush in and buy some more stations for their "message".. Goodness knows we can always use another station full of bible-thumping preachers yelling at us to send money to them for their "mission"..:eyes:

2. Chicago Tribune on A-8
Same as Washington Post. (Brian said that's where the Post had it. He didn't mention where NYT or USAT had it.)

The story in the Trib was a wire story but it was well written and pure reporting. Not any significant commentary.

3. I was curious how well corporate media has covered the speech
I rarely watch TV news, so I'm in the dark about the attention Gore's speech has received in the mainstream.

Doing some surfing last night, I saw lots of Ahnuld, but nothing on Gore.

What's the general take on coverage?

4. Newsday had Arnold on the cover and Gore's Speech buried.
Shows where their priorities are, and to think Newsday is accused of being a "Liberal Rag". As far as the local Progressive Party is concerned Newsday is anything but.
