there's too many narcs up in here
i'm talking about vaporish types who are easily excited, hitting ignore, and alert and snitching to the mods all the time when they feel their religion has been insulted, or someone supposedly says something seen as a racist or bigoted statement. of course, they have to weed out the obvious disruptors and freeper lurkers, but i think they should not be so thin skinned and such tattle tails.

let people express their opinions. particularly on religious topics.
those threads always cause trouble, i know personally. but can we all stop being so eager to narc each other out to the mods all day long? one can hardly discuss religion or atheism without being snitched on by a handful of politeness police. people have differing opinions, let em'.

1. What's with all the anti-narc sentiment on DU?
Narcs need love and affection too.

:freak:

3. I only report on right wingers because the mods won't let us fight them
If people are complaining about other Democrats, that's sad.

Democrats need to learn to fight, maybe a little board battle now and then would be a good thing. :)

7. That May Be True
However, I for one get tired of reading it.

If you are unable to be civil, don't post!

9. Why do you have a right to tell others what not to say?
You don't like the word ****, but maybe someone else doesn't like your opinion on Al Gore.

So I won't use the word **** if you don't ever mention Al Gore again?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have a right to stop others from saying it. If it did, this site would be pointless.

12. street language is uncivil?
most of the so called offensive words can be found in any contemporary dictionary, including the big one. people use words when they speak, and some are SUPPOSED to be more offensive than others. we can say ____, or we can say sexual intercourse. we can say ____, or we can say feces. but when one says, "george bush has feces for brains', it loses it's intended power.

do certain words really somehow effect you emotionally or in any other harmful way? they are just sound vibrations conveying symbols, they cannot hurt you like branches or rocks. are you concerned that a child might see those words? if a child is mature enough to be reading DU then he/she can surely handle abstract concepts like the meanings of words.

11. ah .....anarchists. gotta luv 'em.......not
'scuse me but i value the concept of civilization. rough as it may be for those of you who rail against rules, i find them a valuable aid to insuring the civility that civilizations require.

if i didn't like the rules of an organization or forum, i would either find a different forum or suck it up and follow the rules.
if mechanisms exsisted from user input on the rules, i'd take advantage of them as well.

for sure, i would not flaunt the rules and then complain if someone noticed.

13. i have no problem with the rules or the mods
my problem is with the half dozen snitches we have lurking here who jump on and hijack threads over a sense of moral outrage. holier than thouism. i'm not referring to you. but they know who they are.
i never alert on them, i never ignore them. i only read posts that i want to, and if i'm offended by what i read, no one has been harmed.

15. "fuck" is my very favorite word.
And I have no plans to quit using it in my responses (contextually, of course) unless Skinner tells me I can't.

So there.

16. it's a very useful and utilitarian word
it's like the spice of language. can't make cajun food without spice.
that forbidden word, initially describing the sex act, is used for lots of other purposes, quite effectively. when you smash your thumb with a hammer, no other word will do, unless you put 'mother' in front. if someone stiffs you on the tip after you busted a hump, no other phrase will substitute. and when someone rolls into the parking spot you've been waiting on for 4 minutes with your turn signal on, there is only one word, the very word, the only word that will do.

17. Alerting for Bigotry
I'm one of those who will alert for bigotry. It doesn't belong here. If you have problems with diversity, there are lots of places on the Internet where your contributions will be welcome.

To me, Catholic-bashing is just as bad as gay-bashing, or anti-Semitism or telling Rassus jokes. It's no defense that some of the things that some Catholics do are offensive. The same can be said for any large group.

For the record, I did not alert the mods about a recent post which implied that the Catholic priesthood is about pedophilia and very little else. But it doesn't surprise me that other people did. A post like that does not belong here.

18. yeah, that was my 'pedophile thread'
in which i said that anyone, even baptists can be pedophiles.
but there is no huge centuries old coverup of pedophilia by baptist deacons encompassing thousands of victims and billions of dollars.
can't very well talk about pedophilia WITHOUT bringing up the most obvious case, the catholic preists. it's the elephant in the living room. if this is to be construed as catholic bashing by some, i can't help it.

would you suggest that there be absolutely no criticism of the catholic church, or any other denomination from now on?

is it o.k. to bash david koresh, a devout christian pedophile, but not catholics?

who am i, or you, to judge, we are mere humans. i will be the first to say that i may be totally off base and dead wrong, but at least i admit it.

if i happen to get my feelings hurt by reading something here, i still don't alert the mods. i just go on living.

20. I guess a lot of people aren't as "liberal" as we thought
Vive la difference...

I love reading the outrageous comments which sometimes include profanity to spice things up. I posted something about a month ago about a freeper board and, to my chagrin, said to DUer's "let's INVADE" the board.

You wouldn't believe the responses I got from people saying "we don't invade" boards around here; or "that's inappropriate read THE RULES". A few days later, somebody says the same thing without using the word invade, and it's OK.

Many here can be real turnoffs as those were in the above example. Nothing is more of a turnoff to me than seeing threads locked and moved...and it seems to be happening more and more in the short time I've been here.

Bottom line: If you don't like something, don't read it. All the reporting and tattle taling only censors issues which do require lengthy discussion because they are so controversial.

Let people have their say within reason.

22. I'm a Leftist, Not a Liberal
A lot of things that horrify liberals don't horrify me. Liberals are centrists, and I'm not. For example, I'm fiercely anti-war, and I won't vote for anyone who supports it. That means that if the Democrats nominate Kerry, I won't be voting Democratic.

Alerting on bigotry doesn't bother me at all. I don't see it as tattling; I regard it as pruning the weeds to keep the place tidy. I don't like anti-Catholicism, and I feel it doesn't belong here, especially on a liberal board. What hypocrisy.

I like Howard Dean's observation that Democrats ought to go with our best stuff, not some tepid imitation of what the Republicans are doing. I intend to vote for Al Sharpton in the primary. He's one of the few genuine Democrats in a crowd of phonies.
