WP mis-quoted Gore....let's write and get this corrected.....
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 10:57 AM by amen1234
WHAT GORE ACTUALLY SAID (critical sections bolded were not included in WP)

For eight years, the Clinton-Gore Administration gave this nation honest budget numbers; an economic plan with integrity that rescued the nation from debt and stagnation; honest advocacy for the environment; real compassion for the poor; a strengthening of our military -- as recently proven -- and a foreign policy whose purposes were elevated, candidly presented and courageously pursued, in the face of scorched-earth tactics by the opposition. That is also a form of honor and integrity, and not every administration in recent memory has displayed it.

WP quotes Gore:

But, Gore added, "for eight years, the Clinton-Gore administration gave this nation honest budget numbers, an economic plan with integrity (missing words) . . . honest advocacy for the environment, real compassion for the poor, a strengthening of our military (missing words) and a foreign policy whose purposes were elevated, candidly presented and courageously pursued in the face of scorched-earth tactics by the opposition. That is also a form of honor and integrity, and not every administration in recent memory has displayed it."

1. here's links to WP emails...please help get this corrected....

WP eliminated important and critical remarks by Gore, that he "rescued the Nation from debt and stagnation" and that his military strengthening was "recently proven"...these are critical points that slam bush* bigtime...

2. re: "real compassion for the poor..." -- This is an overstatement.
Relative to the Busheviks, one is tempted to agree with it, of course. But Clinton signed the Welfare Bill of 1996, which was harsh, unfair & punitive to the poor. He did it because he had this bad habit of usually caving in to Republicans to appease them, & because he's a conservative Republican himself in all but name.

I was generally very enthusiastic about Gore's speech, but on this one point, I think he overstated the case.

4. the Welfare Bill became much much harsher with bush*
economic policies...under Clinton, the economy was doing great, and there were jobs for welfare people...the whole idea became extremely cruel with bush* economic trickle-on policies...the "Cheap-Labor Conservatives"....

Clinton-Gore policies actually raised up a lot of people...there were less people in the food banks and homeless shelters...with poor people earning $$$, rather than taking money out of other's paychecks...it had an impact on everything...crime went down...the stock market went up...

it was bush* that created a cruel America...one where poor people have no chance, where there are no jobs, food banks and shelters are overloaded, people are lying homeless on the streets, crime has risen dramatically, the stock market is stagnant, and real soon, the housing 'bubble' will collapse...it's the reTHUGlican way....

5. HONEST BUDGET NUMBERS YOU BETCHA
NEWT AND JUNE O"NEILL HEAD OF GOP CBO SAID THIS:"PRESIDENT CLINTON PRESENTED THE MOST HONEST BUDGETS OF ANY PRESIDENT".

YESIREE! PLUS--CLINTON AND GORE WERE TWO OF MOST HONEST PEOPLE EVER IN WHITE HOUSE.

$110,000,000 WAS SPENT TRYING TO PROVE THEM IMMORAL AND LACKING INTEGRITY AND HONESTY.

I CALLENGE ANYONE--I HAVE CHALLENGED MANY REPUG GROUPS AND PAPERS TO --"TELL ME ONE LIE BILL CLINTON EVER TOLD US ON POLICY"

AL GORE AND BILL CLINTON PUT THEIR PROMISES AND GOALS IN DETAIL IN A BOOK--"PUTTING PEOPLE FIRST".

GUESS WHAT? 58 PROMISES IN THE BOOK---TOOK ACTION ON 56 OF 58 IN FIRST TWO YEARS.

WASHINGTON POST LISTED 162 CAMPAIGN PROMISES. THEY TOOK ACTION ON 96% IN FIRST TWO YEARS.

NEVER LET A REPUG SAY--"CLINTON FIRST TWO YEARS WERE NOTHING".

CLINTON HAS SECOND BEST RECORD (SINCE CONGRESSIONAL QUARTERLY BEGAN RECORDING IT) IN GETTING LEGISLATION THROUGH CONGRESS IN FIRST TWO YEARS.

GUESS WHAT HAPPENED IN THIRD YEAR? NEWTNUTS TOOK CONGRESS. WORST CONGRESSIONAL RECORD SINCE 1933 "DO NOTHING" CONGRESS PER CONGRESSIONAL .
