And the Winner of the 2003 Judas Escariot Award goes to
The nominees are:

1. Diane Feinstein, for announcing BEFORE Arnold's appearance on the Tonight Show that she definitely wouldn't be running for governor. Hey Diane, your timing was perfect.
2. Cruz Bustamente, for jumping into the recall race only a week after he said he wouldn't be running, citing the diminshing political viability of Governor Davis.
3. John Garmendi, who became the SECOND prominent Democrat to enter the recall race. One prominent Democrat is bad enough -- but TWO?

2. Definitely 3
I can see 1, since she's always slammed this process. It's a principled stand, even if her timing was poor.

I think 2 is legit, considering the high odds of Davis going down after Arnold's entry. He is the only legit Dem, IMO, since he is the current Lt. Gov.

3 is the one, though. I CANNOT STAND THIS MAN. I would love to start a letter/e-mail campaign to bombard him with hate mail, but I did a quick search, and the guy has one campaign address at a HOTMAIL account, and I couldn't find a "contact" button on his OFFICIAL website.

What a jackhole.

4. RE: Bustamente and Garmendi
Who's to say they are not doing this to HELP Davis?

Seems to me they are fragmenting the replacement field further, and hurting GOP chances to take the governorship.

6. They're fragmenting the DEMOCRATIC field
Sorry, but I don't see how having two prominent Democrats in the race hurts the Republicans.

8. We'll see
I understand the math, but perhaps there are different constituencies they are addressing?
