Who would support Arnold as a Dem?
Many of Arnold's views are liberal anyway, he is pro-choice, wants to improve schools, help the elderly and the poor.
If he were to change parties and announce as a Democrat would you support him and if not, why not?

1. Which republican is on record wanting to ruin the schools?
And even self-described catholics holding public office said they will not interfere with abortion laws.

3. I might....
...but I live in Georgia and seen very little informative about the other candidates on the recall ballot. Some exposure to Bustamante now, a little more to Huffington. We'll see what we learn in the next two months.

4. Never.
He is an actor and not qualified IMHO to be a politician. I just heard a speech he gave. It had all the GOP talking points. Getting kids the money they need for school programs. His initiative for after school programs, in fact, drained money from the schools to pay for it. He is going to balance the budget (???) robbing peter to pay paul??? I think I am more qualified to be governor and you wouldn't want me to.

I mean reverse the situation. Do you think Bush or Davis should be actors?

Hmmmm .... Do you think bush is real ?

Some would say AWOL is like Reagan. I would agree except that bush sucks at acting like a president.

Nor should Schwartzy be a politician. Haven't we had enough with Reagan and Ventura?

6. On many domestic issues . . .
. . .he is progressive. He could very easily be a moderate to conservative Dem. In my dealings with him, I learned he is very close to the Bush family. That is the only explanation for him being a Repuke.

8. "liberal Republican"
has the same ring of truth as "compassionate conservative". No ring at all.

18. NY Governor Pataki ...
is what I would consider a liberal republican. He is certainly not a liberal, but compared to the right wing he is quite liberal. Do you think he would be Gov. of NY if he wasn't ?

I agree that it sounds funny, but there are Liberal Republicans. Makes as much sense as Conservative Democrats.

Cheers

9. Probably not, even as a Dem
First he has to prove he has the savvy, patience, realism, diplomacy, and intelligence to manage the governorship. I could see if this were just a weak governorship (LIKE TEXAS), but you need more than name recognition to mount a serious campaign.

10. Which begs the question. . .
Why is he running as a Republican in this travesty recall?

I have not followed the Arnold story as much as I probably should, and so I don't know for sure where he stands on the issues. Judging from the account of his performance on TV this morning, he is nothing but a poseur (I'm not exactly sure what it means, but I really like the look and sound of the word).

If he's serious about running for office, let him come up with a platform and have the guts to stand up on the issues. And if that platform is a fundamentally democratic one, then he should have the courage of his convictions and run as one. If he doesn't, then he ought not to be running at all.

11. Absolutely Not
Progressive sentiment coming out of a Republican mouth is not to be trusted. Think "No Child Left Behind" or "Healthy Forest Initiative" Whatever they call a progressive idea, they intend to do just the opposite.

At least I hope not.

Come to think of it, I hope he's never the Governor.

19. I'd have to know exactly what his policies would be.
Right now it sounds like speculation.

I'd also have to be convinced that he knows his ass from a hole in the ground about government too.

Then maybe.

As a Republican?

Never.

20. Don't trust him
From what I've read about the man, he's been first and foremost about developing and marketing Arnold throughout his career. I'm not sure that any policies he espouses come from deeply held beliefs or from what he sees as political expediency.

I don't think he's the dummy some people make him out to be, but don't feel he's qualified in any way for political office at this level.

I'm so glad I don't live in California anymore!

:puke: on Arnold. I would never vote for him. The only reason he decided to take this chance, now, is because he won't have to debate anyone on any issue. Chicken sh*t! He could never survive a true political debate on Ca. issues. I hate cowards. Arnold is a coward.

22. Nazi?
I know it might be shallow or even wrong to base part of my judgement of Arnold on his father, but I would have a hard time voting for the son of a Nazi.

claiming to be a moderate. YEAH, RIGHT. Arnold is being set up to win big, and then turn sharply to the right.

You may say that his personal life doesn't matter. But it does. He has a history of duplicity and dominance. I wouldn't respect him any more if he were democrat.
