Other state budget deficits
As I watch California blame Gray Davis for all of their finacial troubles, how many other states are facing the same budget deficits? In the great state of Nevada, we have just finished up with two special sessions in which our taxes were increased. If states were like the federal government, we wouldn't need to balance the budget. We could just spend, borrow, spend, borrow. When services have to increase, who is required to pay for it?

How many other states are experiencing this financial crunch?

1. montana's 2003 state budget "precariously balanced"
http://www.montanaforum.com/rednews/2003/04/30/build/lawmaking/op-budgetlaw.php?nnn=5

It was a harrowing process, from what I've read, and there have been a couple of calls for special sessions.

3.  I lost the URL.
and am too tired to retrieve it. I no longer believe any
city, county, state or fed claims that they need more money.
In fact, I think taxes should be reduced to a low level.

"I get very busy toward the end of summer," Johns says. "A lot of clients work for governments with fiscal years ending in September, so they've got to get out and spend some money."

He also attracts interest from the public through the charter portion of his Web site, http://www.usia.com.

But customers willing to pay $200 for a wild ride on the ocean and put fish in the cooler first have to pass his personal test.

2. Nebraska was forced to cut medicare and medicaid
And New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are fighting tremendous debt problems, hanging on to the precipice to avoid out and out bankruptcy.

Gray Davis is not the problem. BUSH IS.

4. Other states don't have 55 electoral votes.
They probably are states with Republican majorities anyway.

5. The front page
of my local Orgonian newspaper today read, "Lawmakers set record, no budget deal at hand."

It is getting quite knarly up in my state capitol. :-(
