Poll question: How long until Noelle Bush is back in rehab?
Today, our favorite Governor's daughter was released from rehab (good for her). So, I wanted to put it to my fellow DUers to see how long it would be until she's back in rehab. Opinions welcome.

1. CNN: Breaking News...
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 04:10 PM by tsipple
Noelle is back in rehab. Just appeared on the CNN crawl.

:-)

(On edit: Yes, this is a joke. Upon reflection not a very funny one. President Bush's policies, also shared by some Democrats, are not an answer to drug problems facing many Americans. It's just too bad that Governor Jeb Bush seems to understand the policy problem only when it comes to the welfare of his daughter.)

Small-minded tripe.

Don't waste your time attacking innocent civilians for what SHOULD be private failings and ordeals.

Get the word out to vote in '04

It is THE most important task ahead of us...get all democrats to the polls to get rid of this terrible "president".

This little girl needs privacy and support. She is an innocent. Attach her adult family but leave her out of it.

8. Voted one year
and wish her luck. Drugs are an insidious disease and addiction should be treated as such, not as a criminal act. Of course her father and uncle seem to want everybody elses children to be treated as criminals if they are drug and/or alcohol addicts. Good luck to Ms. Bush and I wish her a nice life. One question though, if she gets arrested again, does she do time or go back to rehab?

11. You boys play nice
Personally, I object to the conservative point of view on drug use. Noelle should get a chance to start her life again. I hate her father, too, but don't make her an object of derision.

14. Perhaps this is also about her father?
an uglier man cannot be found on this planet.
His role in the selection was key.
His crimes against democracy the worst.

Perhaps if he were not so busy insuring the political success of his family (and boffing Kate Harris or whatever they did together) and instead tending to his duties as a father, there would not be an issue? Jeb is a piece of filfth, and the apple has apparently not fallen far from the tree.

27. This thread is not ugly and no shame on me for asking.
It was an honest and legitimate question. My best friend of 15 years was addicted to crack. He's been in and out of rehab and jail for almost as long as we've been friends. I asked this to illicit a response from others who may or may not be in a similar situation.

13. Can't really answer this poll.
If the question was how long till she's back on drugs it would be easier. I hope she'll stay clean, but the odds aren't good. The thing is, she will only end up back in rehab if she A-goes back on drugs, and, B-gets caught. For her sake, I hope that A never happens. But if it does, I do hope that it's closely followed by B, as opposed to C-overdosing. The poor thing. I feel sorry for all the Bush girls. It must be hell to be female in that family.

19. Governor's daughter
Give the girl a break. Be supportive. None of her family is except one brouther. Jeb and the precious Columbia don't have time for her. And after reading 10 years of sickening right wing tabaloid smears on Clinton's daughter, it doesn't matter what I think of the rest of them. She deserves all our support.

was too busy trying to smuggle things past Customs' without declaring them to give her much support. *ha ha*

Her and her drug addiction aren't the objects of scorn here, it's the family she was born into and the glaring hypocrisy of her multiple stints in rehabilitation, while the adult children of modest means or with poor parents are sent to jail!

25. Our drug policies are not working
not the war on drugs, which costs us billions. And, sadly, not our treatment of people like Noelle. These people need our help and support, not derision. The Bush administration's punative policies don't strengtthen our society. Noelle, with all her advantages, is not getting better. And she's lucky because she has a family with influence. Think of all the people in prison for drugs. Who is this helping? Do I need to be protected against people like Noelle? We're just warehousing huge numbers of people who have not committed violent crimes.

26. I didn't vote
I just hope she gets the help she needs to keep her clean. If she goes back into rehab to fight those demons, so be it. Returning to rehab shouldn't be seen as failure - she had all her life to get fucked up, to think she would get straight in one, 3 month (was that the timeline?) stretch is unlikely, relapse is not unlikely and, in addiction theory, not failure.

Now her family? For them, I hope to see confinement - treasons charges, etc.

37. "she had all her life to get fucked up"
Perfect! That's the most logical response to multiple stays in rehab that I've ever heard. Thanks, I'm going to use that if a similar subject ever comes up again.

People like Morton Downey, Jr. should have a card with that printed on it, so if they start to stumble, or just stumble again, they won't get into the self-defeating cycle of thinking of themselves as failures.

34. Too many celeb addicts who rehab as a substitute for jail
Indeed, Noelle was caught with crack on the premises. That's why I have a hard time feeling sorry for her. I was, however, charitable enough to give her a year. I can only hope she's really learned her lesson instead of taking a vacation.

40. Addiction is just that - you need a strong supportive family
to survive and with some addictions, such as heroin, it is a losing battle. This girl needs to go somewhere where her family IS NOT!

If she were to be confined on an island in the middle of nowhere she might have a chance - with her family background - I doubt it.

We're pretty honest and sometimes brutal here, but we are mostly correct.
