Anyone know exactly when General Clark 1st came out and stated he was against the Iraq war?

What statements did he make opposing the war other than critiques on the execution of it?

I like the man and would definitely recommend him as VP, but I would also like to have someone who had political courage when all those nasty right wingers were calling opponents of the Iraq war unpatriotic.

I read that Gen. Anthony Zinni spoke out before the war and was really attacked for it.

heard him questioning the imminence of the threat back in Sept of last year when he testified before the house armed services committee.

on edit: he was also there with Gen. Shalikashvili (ret) and two others that I can't remember off the top of my head. Only one of the 4 saw a imminent threat in Iraq.

2. Clark

The thing about Clark is, he did oppose the war, but the Republicans will be very wary of criticizing him for it. It opens up a debate topic (the military) that they would be terrified of opening up if Clark was on the ticket. AWOL Bush vs. a 4-Star General and Supreme Allied Commander in a military debate would be a joke, and that fact would become increasingly obvious the more the topic of the military came up. They have criticized other military men, but none as distinguised as Clark and none threatening to throw him out of office.

I gather he would have Tony Zinni at his side.

After thinking about the bushco problem with Clark, it should be added that Clark teaches "Just War Theory" with some Jesuits. Considering Dubya failed to convince the Pope and the Methodist (to name just a few) about the need to bomb the shit out of helpless people, would the squatter want to take on the church. That was an issue that the corporate media quickly buried; so does Rove think that it is smart politically to challenge that policy and incure more rath than votes?

I don't know exactly when he started making his critique, but I know he was underway criticizing it as unnecessary during his stint as a CNN analyst during the run-up to the war.

Since then, he has called it "the biggest strategic blunder since the Cold War."
