1. he's on vacation
People like him better when he's out of the White House. If he were thrown out, his numbers would be 100.

2. He's on vacation...
...so he ahsn't said anyhting terminally stupid in that long. The American People have short memories. the only reason most of them remember Bush is President is because someone asked them on a poll.

3. Not much of a jump -
and taking into account that most of these polls are pure crap, not anything to worry about. If it says that 58% approve of chimpy, I just halve the number. 29% is more on the mark, IMO.

4. I think there's been a respite from Nigergate and the WMD issue
since Bush went on vacation. Another explanation could be the mailing out of the tax rebates. I think the situation will heat up again when Congress and Bush return to D.C. in September. BTW, if you look at Bush's approval graph on www.pollkatz.com these numbers are still within the overall trend.

5. my guess
The public gets the sense that Bush was somehow exonerated for his lies. The whores have moved on, so that must mean he didn't lie.

Just like when the whores stopped covering the war, and started showing the troops returning, that meant that the war was over.

I agree completely. Since the lies are no longer being talked about, the issue must have been resolved and people can feel comfortable about him again. People really want to believe in him because it seems so very frightening to them not to believe in him.

(edited to clarify)

6. It was the doll:

If the thing was anatomically correct, he would have gone even higher. His approval rating, that is.

9. This is the same time frame of the Pew that had him drop to 53%
..and that number has been all over CNN the last few days. They keep emphasizing that it is down from the Pew Poll of 58% the month before and his 86% rating right after 9/11.

11. Is Arnold making people think Republicans are cool?
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 08:39 PM by Democat
Don't underestimate the power of a popular celebrity Republican being promoted by all of the media all of the time.

Arnold could boost the image of their party at a time when we had some momentum.

There's a history of him doing better pollwise when he's out of sight, whether in DC or in Texas.
