For Mayor Willie Brown, the first signs that something was amiss came late Monday when he got a call from what he described as his airport security - - a full eight hours before yesterday's string of terrorist attacks -- advising him that Americans should be cautious about their air travel.

The mayor, who was booked to fly to New York yesterday morning from San Francisco International Airport, said the call "didn't come in any alarming fashion, which is why I'm hesitant to make an alarming statement."

In fact, at the time, he didn't pay it much mind.

"It was not an abnormal call. I'm always concerned if my flight is going to be on time, and they always alert me when I ought to be careful."

Exactly where the call came from is a bit of a mystery. The mayor would say only that it came from "my security people at the airport."

snip....

I'm sure it wasn't Osama.....

2. and why did ashcroft stop flying commercial summer 2001?
Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 08:57 PM by bpilgrim
why did * tell our agents to stand down on the saudi/bin laden investigation?

why did WT7 collapse in it's on footprint suddenly...
http://globalfreepress.com/movs/911/wtc-7_collapse.mpg

why did we fly the bin ladens out of the country without allowing our agents to ask them a few questions?

why did bush go on a month long vacation after being warned about imminent attacks back in aug 2001, and even today while the so called 'war on terror' rages and our troops and civilians dying daily, to establish a pattern?

there are a lot of questions that haven't been answered by that report.

good think WE got the internet...

psst... pass the word ;->

LIHOP means "let it happen on purpose" in other words, they knew it was going to happen and didn't try to stop it. MIHOP means " made it happen on purpose". In others words, 9/11 was a Bushco operation to bump up the chimps approval ratings.

He started to work for the NIH under Tommy Thompson on September 10, 2001 as an adviser on national security. On September 11th, he told the White House to take Cipro, the antibiotic that works against the anthrax virus, without bothering to reveal his warning to the American nation.

all this before the anthrax attack in DC....oh yes that was the same day the house/senate received the Patriot Act...

just another coincidence....

12. The Willie Brown story was out there
immediately after 9/11. He mentioned it that very day. Keep in mind, it was around 6am on the west coast when planes started crashing in the east, so for all practical purposes, no flights left SFO or anywhere in the Pacific time zone that day.

It is wierd, and maybe is just a truly bizarre coincidence, a nutcase phone call that actually has no connection to the events of Sept 11, 2001, but still....

I also get quite exercised over the fact that right around the time the plane crashed into the Pentagon, all the networks were reporting a car bomb at the State Department and fires on the Mall.... this from people who simply needed to walk two blocks in one direction or three blocks in another to actually see whether or not anything had blown up at the State Department or was on fire on the Mall. They kept on reporting those things for about an hour, as best my memory serves. For a long time, months really, there was an archive website available where you could watch all the networks in real time for Sept 11 and about four days thereafter. It was quite instructive to watch it, and watch each network shift to the live coverage, and exactly how it was reported. Alas, about a year ago the connections stopped working. I'm sorry I never figured out how to download all that stuff onto a CD to have as a permanent record.

I had a slightly different URL linked to that same site and it had been taken down. I see it's back. I should take the time to watch and listen to each network and take detailed notes. One thing that's quite interesting is to listen to the utter incredulity of the anchors as they listen to eyewitness reports. Some of them are real idiots.

added: It's also obvious most of the anchors either didn't have a moniter to watch or simply didn't look at it.

13. Cheney, Bush Jr. take the LONGEST Pres. vacations EVER
Just prior to 9/11, as the warnings were pouring in, Bush and Cheney got out of DC, out of harm's way. What did they do to protect US? Nothing.

www.msnbc.com/news/907379.asp?0cv=KA01

The Secrets of September 11
The White House is battling to keep a report on the terror attacks secret. Does the 2004 election have anything to do with it?

April 30 — Even as White House political aides plot a 2004 campaign plan designed to capitalize on the emotions and issues raised by the September 11 terror attacks, administration officials are waging a behind-the-scenes battle to restrict public disclosure of key events relating to the attacks.

<snip>Some sources who have read the still-secret congressional report say some sections would not play quite so neatly into White House plans. One portion deals extensively with the stream of U.S. intelligence-agency reports in the summer of 2001 suggesting that Al Qaeda was planning an upcoming attack against the United States—and implicitly raises questions about how Bush and his top aides responded. One such CIA briefing, in July 2001, was particularly chilling and prophetic. It predicted that Osama bin Laden was about to launch a terrorist strike “in the coming weeks,” the congressional investigators found. The intelligence briefing went on to say: “The attack will be spectacular and designed to inflict mass casualties against U.S. facilities or interests. Attack preparations have been made. Attack will occur with little or no warning.”

The substance of that intelligence report was first disclosed at a public hearing last September by staff director Hill. But at the last minute, Hill was blocked from saying precisely who within the Bush White House got the briefing when CIA director Tenet classified the names of the recipients. (One source says the recipients of the briefing included Bush himself.) As a result, Hill was only able to say the briefing was given to “senior government officials.”

Summer Spinning
To GOP, Vacation Boosted Bush Agenda; To Democrats, Voters See a Shirk Ethic
Aug 29, <2001>

<snip>The White House had announced that Bush would stay at his 1,600-acre ranch in Crawford from Aug. 4 through Labor Day on Sept. 3, a 31-day stretch that would have broken a modern record for a presidential vacation, held by Richard M. Nixon for a 30-day trip to San Clemente, Calif., in 1969. News reports played up the record, and a Gallup Poll found that 55 percent of respondents thought Bush's vacation was too long.

The length of the trip revived old questions about Bush's work ethic, and the poll and the news coverage caused consternation in the White House. Aides said they had planned an ambitious schedule for Bush as long ago as late June, but reporters were not told about it, even after they landed here. The White House, suddenly defensive, took every opportunity to show Bush on the go and even created a "Western White House" logo for the briefing room at Crawford Elementary School. Bush revealed that his ranch had new video conferencing equipment for keeping in touch with his national security team.

A Working Vacation
Vice President Cheney plans to fish, travel during month-long valley sojourn.
By Angus M. Thuermer Jr.

Vice President Dick Cheney took time off from his month-long working vacation Monday to outline his plans for August in Jackson Hole and to reflect on "an amazing year."

Cheney, who will live at his Teton Pines home about six miles west of Jackson until Labor Day, defended his energy policy, supported a local decision to limit drilling around the Gros Ventre Wilderness, recalled a life of service in Washington and said his health problems are not affecting his ability to fish for trout on his favorite Western waters.

Ashcroft Flying High
WASHINGTON, July 26, 2001

(CBS) Fishing rod in hand, Attorney General John Ashcroft left on a weekend trip to Missouri Thursday afternoon aboard a chartered government jet, reports CBS News Correspondent Jim Stewart.

In response to inquiries from CBS News over why Ashcroft was traveling exclusively by leased jet aircraft instead of commercial airlines, the Justice Department cited what it called a "threat assessment" by the FBI, and said Ashcroft has been advised to travel only by private jet for the remainder of his term.

"There was a threat assessment and there are guidelines. He is acting under the guidelines," an FBI spokesman said. Neither the FBI nor the Justice Department, however, would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it.

23. Other cases are more important
Edited on Tue Aug-12-03 07:18 AM by paulthompson
I've done a lot of 9/11 research, and my suspicion about this Willie Brown case is that it was just coincidence. He essentially refuted any meaning to the story in an article shortly afterwards.

However, there are some other similar stories that I think are much more interesting, have never been refuted by anyone, and more indicative of Bush foreknowledge. Here are two entries from my 9/11 timeline:

September 3, 2001: Author Salman Rushdie, the target of death threats from radical Muslims for years, is banned by US authorities from taking internal US flights. He says the FAA told his publisher the reason was because it had "intelligence of something about to happen." One newspaper states, "The FAA confirmed that it stepped up security measures concerning Mr. Rushdie but refused to give a reason." (London Times, 9/27/01) Years before, Iran had issued a religious fatwa against Rushdie calling for his murder, so if Rushdie had been killed it would have been a major propaganda coup for the terrorists.

September 10, 2001: Two days after 9/11, Newsweek reports: "The state of alert had been high during the past two weeks, and a particularly urgent warning may have been received the night before the attacks, causing some top Pentagon brass to cancel a trip. Why that same information was not available to the 266 people who died aboard the four hijacked commercial aircraft may become a hot topic on the Hill." (Newsweek, 9/13/01) Far from becoming a hot topic, the only additional media mention of this story is in the next issue of Newsweek: "a group of top Pentagon officials suddenly canceled travel plans for the next morning, apparently because of security concerns." (Newsweek, 9/17/01)

You can find lots more examples of people with 9/11 foreknowledge here:

http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline/main/AAexactday.html

One gvmt investigator said after 9/11 that there were so many people with foreknowledge that it's difficult to sort out who knew second hand or third hand and so on, compared to those who learned it from actual terrorists.

I find the Salman Rushdie case especially interesting. Think about it: of all possible private citizens on those flights, who would have been a greater coup for the terrorists to kill in the hijackings than Rushdie? Note that he was only banned from internal US flights for a limited time while the official story is that all indications pointed to an overseas attack. This says to me that some people within the gvmt were sure the attack would be on internal US flights, and they didn't want Rushdie to be accidentally caught up in it.

24. Rushdie story
Here by the way is the Rushdie story, which I can post the complete text of (I think) since it is four paragraphs or less:

Bin Laden's Trail

Rushdie's air ban

by James Doran
The London Times
September 27, 2001

The author Salman Rushdie believes that US authorities knew of an imminent terrorist strike when they banned him from taking internal flights in Canada and the US only a week before the attacks.

On September 3 the Federal Aviation Authority made an emergency ruling to prevent Mr Rushdie from flying unless airlines complied with strict and costly security measures. Mr Rushdie told The Times that the airlines would not upgrade their security.

The FAA told the author’s publisher that US intelligence had given warning of “something out there” but failed to give any further details.

The FAA confirmed that it stepped up security measures concerning Mr Rushdie but refused to give a reason.

27. John Dean: 9/11 report shows that Bush knew (CNN)
If you haven't seen it--it was posted on DU last week--check it out:

Obviously, Republicans were not going to let Democrats say what needed to be said, or maybe Democrats did not want to politicize the matter. But since the facts could not be ignored or suppressed, they reported them without drawing certain obvious, not to mention devastating, conclusions.

Bluntly stated, either the Bush White House knew about the potential of terrorists flying airplanes into skyscrapers (notwithstanding their claims to the contrary), or the CIA failed to give the White House this essential information, which it possessed and provided to others.

Bush is withholding the document that answers this question. Accordingly, it seems more likely that the former possibility is the truth. That is, it seems very probable that those in the White House knew much more than they have admitted, and they are covering up their failure to take action.

The facts, however, speak for themselves.

30. Yep....This is old news!.....Read about this 1 1/2 months after 911.
Not only this but, why did the NYSE have an emergency run
the day before 911?

Why did top corporate executives have a convention meeting at
a Military base in Montana on the day of 911?

The same military base that Bush flew to, one of his three stops
on 911?

Why did Cheney threaten the Taliban 3 weeks before 911 that
if they didn't do what he asked he was gonna "Carpet Bomb em"?

Why was John O'Niel let go of his investigations on Osama and Saudi Arabia during January,2001 and who really took John O'Niel's
brief case from him and then accused him of loosing it?

How come there was a huge exchange between insurance companies
covering the World Trade Center 5 weeks before 911?

Just give good old Poppy a phone call....I'm sure with a little
truth serum he'll tell ya everything.
