Lies Across America...
Alright, this might not even be a subject for GD, if not, feel free to move to the Lounge. I just posted this in another thread, but the thread was dropping like a stone, so here goes:

does anyone think that it's possible to organize something like this (just an idea that i had yesterday)?

A person in every city (or at least as many major cities as we can get) holds a sign saying "Bush lied, 307 soldiers have died. Will someone you know be the next to die for a lie?" at a highly visible location during rush hour/lunch hour. And someone different does it every day, or people do it on shifts. Is this even reasonable/is there any way it could be done, even on a smaller scale (i.e. does anyone think that they could get enough du'ers <or members of other progressive organizations, I don't have a clue> together in their city to keep something like this going for at least a few weeks, if only for hours a day?) I just think that it would create some great visibility, get people thinking, and also be a good way to get some media coverage (espeically local, b/c, at the very least, it would be controversial). Any thoughts? Just an idea...

2. I like it but can we think of....
think of a group that's already out there who would be willing to do it within their organization?

Who is out on the streets all day and hates bush?

3. well,
who is out on the streets all day and hates bush? hmmm, besides finding a group like students who would have the time during the day, or one of the PIRG groups who always hassle me when I am walking downtown (they cost money tho I am almost certain), the only really viable ways I can think of would be to someone gain the interest of one or more of the members of the antiwar coalition who organized the protest marches. they would have the access to a large number of interested parties in most states, so at least something could get started. I really think it would pull more people in if they knew that there were people every day in visible areas denouncing * and his lies (i.e. the more people see things in public, the more they think that these ideas are not fringe and the more likely they are to think about them IMO). might be too out there to work, but I think it would raise a lot of eyebrows and get these ideas some badly needed visibility.

4. well, here's another idea
Over the weekend I heard this show on NPR about those instant mobs. I don't know if you're aware of it or not but if you're not, they communicate through digital messaging. They shoot out an address and all of a sudden masses of people show up and do some designated thing, like chant something together, and then they all disperse.

The show was an indepth look at the phenomenon and I just looked to see if I could find it but I couldn't. It would be cool to get groups together like this and everyone show up at a designated spot, bearing a sign with this message, and then disperse.

It would be powerful.

6. Flashmobs or something similar are a great idea!
I know people can say "I don't have the time during the day" but what if we all just said that on our lunch hour (or afternoon coffee break if you have one,and we could do it in shifts by city so that the movement could be maintained over the course of weeks or months) we work something out like flashmobs, but for a longer period (say a half an hour), with signs (like the ones mentioned in my thread) geared towards garnering quick attention to bush's lies (it would be imperative that everyone have the same sign to get maximum mileage and visibility out of the message). Then, everyone could disperse and go back to their normal daily doings knowing that they had at least tried to make a small difference. The flashmob thing just struck me as a great way to organize cheaply (thanks to the poster who suggested it) after someone mentioned it without large time commitments (similar to how the Dean campaign has utilized meetups). I really think there are some decent ideas on here, but like Shrub's lies, I don't think my thread has any legs.
(copied my post from another thread b/c it was more relevant here).

5. Senior citizens who can still stand?
Ever thought of billboards? Renting one for a month is sometimes cheaper than you think. If you took a collection? Might be a thought?
