Baby Jessica graduates from high school
Edited on Sun May-30-04 12:46 PM by Yupster
Top story in our local paper this morning.

Jessica McClure, the 18 month old toddler who fell into an abandoned water pipe and was stuck for over two days graduated from Greenwood High, a rural high school outside of Midland Texas yesterday.

There were no tv cameras to record the event.

Nice article about the young lady who says she has no memory of the event. She still has scars on her forehead and thigh.

She says she's tried to be anonymous, but the first day in this school outside of town, someone asked her what her name was, and she said Jessica McClure, and he said, your not the kid who was stuck in the well are you?

6. what'll really make you feel older
is when you start hearing about kids born in the 1990s graduating high school/college. I remember when I first started meeting people who were born in the 80s - bizarre.

11. What will really scare you
is when you realize you graduated from high school over 35 years ago, and that many many of your heroes from childhood (like David Dellinger) are passing on.

15. The day that I really realized I was aging was when
I realized that some of the people working with me were born after the Beatles broke up. And that was back in the '80s....

20. I was 10 when it happened...
...and living just north of Dallas. I remember it being all over the news and being really scared for her. When they pulled her out we (my family) just jumped up and down and said "Oh thank heavens, she's safe".

Nosa Rumbo Cherry Berry Boocha Pip Perry Pembo has fallen into the well!

Or something like that...anyone else remember that book?

Anyway, I was probably about 12 when this whole thing happened. I vaguely remember the image of her being carried away after they pulled her out, but that's it.

7. And then there was the guy who brought her up out of the well
He had all these problems after the hero worship faded. Didn't he commit suicide, or is he still around?

9. Stuff Magazine posted a photo spread of "Jessica" as a prank
Wasn't really Jessica, just some red-haired bimbo who looked about 18. Probably somewhere on Stuff's site, if you're really that curious.

13. I think her parents divorced
Edited on Sun May-30-04 01:37 PM by Gman
I remember years after the original story a follow up story about how her dad had squandered like $60K in donations for Jessica. He opened a heavy equipment company with the money and promptly went belly up. A lot of people that helped raise the money were pissed. Sometime afterwards Jessica's parents divorced.
