I am starting to worry if we can win.
It feels to me like whenever I go to kick the ball, Lucy pulls it up and I fall flat on my back.

We throw the whole bullfighting ring at shrub and he puts it on his finger. He seems to be able to absorb anything. I was never a Kerry backer but we all have to be now!! He is the guy we are sending against this american al-quada ape.

I just wish the party would coordinate more and not have people like Gore screaming for the Great Pumpkin to come out. And Kerry hiding cause he only got a rock. We need to be solid like the repukes are and not fall into factions that undercut each other.

Why can't we Dems consolidate and move forward despite some differances? The repukes have always had that and I am afraid its going to be our demise.

Ok I said it, and now I need to go to bed, work tomorrow early.

It was building all day and thanks for listening. Night all and thanks to all our troops past and present!!!

1. Nah....
Bush's numbers are going down.

The fact is, people want his re-elect to be 10%, but that's never gonna happen. His base is 35-40 and he will never fall below that. The fact that his numbers are so low now is encouraging, not discouraging.

15. Bush* Can "Win" with 35% or even less
That's what people here keep forgetting.
2% ahead is really 5% behind, even before Diebold gets into the act.
The Electoral College gives the usurper a huge advantage.
Diebold can easily certainly deliver Ohio and every other state in
which they control the vote to Bush*. A perusal of the electionline
map of voting systems in use shows Georgia, Florida, Maryland,
Kentucky, Tennasee, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina,
Indiana, and Nevada as mostly or all green for DRE, i.e. most likely
red in the election. Most of those are red states anyway, but some
are considered to be in play, and a few are democratic states or at
least they have been up until now.

Bush*'s approval ratings need to be down in last-days-of-Nixon territory, so even DRE voting machinez won't vote for him.

It's all about the machinez.

No worries; but lets work our asses off to get Kerry elected.

5. Very Fitting Quote!
The mere fact they've gone SOOO over the top negative this early is a sign of complete desperation. The negativity is going to be so stale and worn by Nov. and so obvious it will be a wonder if people aren't puking in the street at the mention of Bush and crawling over each other to vote for Kerry.

6. Keep the faith.
What you're hearing is the Repug echo chamber. Gore didn't do us any harm. He told the truth, and it needed to be said. The noise machine will always do this to anybody who steps out of the line they want us to stand in. Every time they scream "Un-American", "Crazy", "angry", :Full of hate", "Out of touch"...it means we're getting to them, and I count every one as a small victory. You know none of this is true, and here's a secret, they know it too.

There is no magic bullet that will take Chimpy down, only a lot of chisels, hammers, and pick axes constantly breaking it apart.

8. We should all be worrying.
The odds are still very much against Kerry and us. Bush*s negative ads have been very successful. There is no reason to believe they won't continue to be so. The mindless repetition of the lies eventually becomes "fact". Kerry's negatives in the polls are just too high.

Bush* essentially has unlimited money to fill the airwaves with propaganda and he's got the media constantly repeating his (mis)characterization of Kerry. So far, Kerry has had little luck in defining himself. He has been totally defined by the Repugs.

The economy and Iraq probably won't get any worse than they have been by the election. In fact, the economy will perk up a little. Shrub has absorbed the bulk of the bad news.

Enough of the public is open to the idea of replacing Bush*, but Kerry has been unable to convince them that he is the guy they want to do the job. Even if he can successfully do that, it's still going to be a tight, tight election.

19. agreed, not just unlimited money
But, they also control of 95% of the mainstream media, plus RW talk radio gives them a propaganda machine that makes the Mighty Wurlitzer of Germany pale in comparison.

So, they not only have to compete with $200+ million of Bush attacks on Kerry, we also have to compete with probably $2 billion in basically free advertising in the guise of Faux News, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS (save the occasional 60 Minutes piece), NPR and talk radio (save Air America)

10. patience...
i know exactly how you feel. before i researched previous presidential campaigns, i thought nothing could touch bush. it's just slow, though... bush is actually doing horribly bad for an incumbent at this point. we've already seen the slow awakening of the media, and i think if you check the polls about a week after the dem convention, it'll be clear that w's goose is cooked.

the wild card is this summer terror warning. i'm not a mihop or lihopper, but if a terror attack in the us before the election will be favorable to bush's popularity... then guess what? you'd better go stock up on the duct tape.

11. I think it's Kerry's to lose
Lots of folks (of all political persuasions) have a bad taste in their minds about bush .. . but at his point in the campaign, people still don't know alot about Kerry. k's speech recently about foreign policy is a great start . . . defining his positions in a way most Americans can feel confident about.

Basically, very few who voted for gore will vote for bush. That's a good start . . . If Kerry can avoid the tired class warfare rhetoric of Gore, he should pick up a good # of votes that bush got last time around. . . . If he goes for the same old "people vs. the powerful" crap he may be in trouble with these crossover votes for a couple of reasons:

1- Kerry is a privileged, mega rich guy . . . If he tries to act like Dennis Kusinich is just sounds like bullshit. (just live it sounded like bullshit coming out of gore's prep school mouth)

2- Last election I knew lots of relatively average working people with decent jobs (husband & wife each making 40-60k per year) who voted for Bush because they thought "hey, Gore thinks I'm rich & is gonna tax the shit out of me . . . I'm not rich, but I'm sure not gonna vote for a guy who doesn't seem to even know anything about my life"

Kerry is making sensible policy speeches & has said that noone making less than 200k/year will have his taxes raised . . . If he keeps this up he will inoculate himself from this type of thinking . . . If he starts pounding the populist drum, however, & scares professional people he will lose lots of votes from folks who may say "I really don't like bush, but I've got to be an asshole to vote for someone that despises my hard work & thinks that I'm part of the 'evil rich' to be reviled & taxed into oblivion."

I really think Gore's using the 'evil rich' as a whipping boy cost him the election . . . a young dual income couple making 100k a year is neither evil, nor rich . . . but by & large they sure as hell voted against us last time because of the rhetoric our candidate chose to espouse.

I sure hope the "centrist" at the DLC don't lose this one for Kerry and all of us by spending more time catering to the rich and trying to be Republicans.

14. Just giving away votes, then
don't you think?

Kerry cannot just write off anyone who makes more than 25k a year, can he?

At the end of the day people vote their pocketbook & all i know is lots of coworkers who voted held their noses & voted bush last time because they thought that Gore was out to get them.

Kerry should study the lessons of Clinton, he would probably get reelected for his 4th term right now if it was legal & I don't recall him dissing people because they have a little coin in their pockets .. .

17. your post is simply wrong on many levels
First of all, $25,000 is damn close to the media, meaning that's HALF the population. Second of all, how is Kerry going to "write off" anyone who makes more than 25k a year? Obviously, he isn't, and the "class warfare" rhetoric doesn't suggest he does.

"At the end of the day people vote their pocketbook & all i know is lots of coworkers who voted held their noses & voted bush last time because they thought that Gore was out to get them."

People DO vote their pocketbook and that's why "class warfare" rhetoric wins elections. Your coworkers thought that Gore was out to get them? Your anecdotal evidence proves nothing, really. You are saying that tax cuts are the number on issue for these cooworkers? Sounds to me like they would never had voted Democratic at all.

23. It's not about the money, the trick you see, is...
...keeping the so called "salt of the earth" bent over and asking for more. It is also what the GOP does so damn well. You have to remember that there are basically two types of conservatives. Those that have absolutely nothing, and blame liberals and minorities for it, and those that have everything, and are going to do anything that they damn well can to keep it that way. Jingoism, patriotism, flag waving, the Flag Amendment, flag desecration, gay marriage, womens rights, abortion, these are but a small sampling of the smoke and mirrors that the right uses to keep the former happily being abused by, and voting for the latter.

well, interesting, but still, the "class warfare" rhetoric is gaining us
votes, not sending votes to the GOP. When the Democratic party used "class warfare" rhetoric, we had majorities. When Dems try to act like Republicans and cater to the rich, we lose.

But, sure, people who vote Republican are suckers, at least unless they are super rich.

16. Keeps me up nights, it does
We just have to keep plugging, Charlie Brown.

Remind our third-party friends that protest votes will only guarantee another Bush term in the WH, with all that implies for ecological degradation, loss of civil rights, and wars of empire. Remind our Democrat friends that continually knocking Kerry for not being Kucinich, Dean, or the Second Coming will only turn off more voters that we need.

We just have to keep plugging and believe we can.

Get some rest -- we all need it!

Seriously, there are always all these doomsday threads, we should be absolutely thrilled that it's more or less a dead heat way before the conventions, just last Dec after Saddam was extracted from his hole, I had repukes gloating that "there will never be another Democrat in the White House" now Shrub is hanging by a thread.

We need GOOD ENERGY please step out of the fear, get the momentum going!

24. I think the "Class Warfare" thinking is dead wrong..............
The Kennedys weren't exactly poverty and they fought hard for the little people. It's so bogus to assume that if a rich guy (and which of these people who climb to national prominence are not rich)starts talking to the common people and pointing to the over $200K a year group using and abusing them and not wanting to participate financially in our government, that said rich guy will just turn off all those over $200k voters. News Flash---those people don't vote Dem and haven't for years. They are MEMEME republicans to the core. On the other hand, we have had too many not rich folks (like mentioned in a post above) not vote for Dems because they have been taught to blame their finances on the Dems. The idea is to rouse again a spirit akin to that which was raised decades ago by Unions---it's to inform them that they need to scream "enough", band together, and get this country working again for all instead of them being the doormats of the rich. It's about damn time we stop ignoring the vast majority of this country and spending our times on our knees seeing what crumbs some suburbanite throws us. In fact, it's when we screwed those little people, that they walked away from us.
