Wearing red on Friday to oppose Bush?

I got an e-mail advocating wearing red on Friday to oppose the current administration. Supposedly, this was done in parts of Europe to show opposition to Hitler (red was the color of the Allied Forces). Has anyone received an e-mail like this? I have the e-mail at work, but I'm not a t work right now, so it's not in front of me to copy and paste verbatim. I looked for some information on Snopes but couldn't find anything about it. It has the feel of an urban legend to me, but it may not be a bad idea whether or not the supposed origin is true or not. My only reservation is that red represents the right to most people these days (red states vs blue states). So if the right starts sending e-mails that says wearing red on Fridays is a show of support for Bush, there's going to be a lot of confusion. Otherwise, I guess the worst that can happen is that people just won't notice. Any thoughts or helpful information?

1. Haven't heard anything, myself, but that doesn't mean squat.

I'd do it to show opposition to bush - even if nobody noticed. When you get back to the office, you can double-check the email and post about it. I'm interested.

But I think the cat's out of the bag for our side as far as the "red on fridays" thing goes - any counter-campaign would take a while to build up.

Things of this nature are great, if everyone knows the significance of the action (wearing red). Unfortunately wearing red is not unusual, and I'll bet very few people would get it.

Now if there was a suggestion to wear your "Bush Sucks" t-shirt every Friday, that would work.

4. Well, I think that's part of the appeal.

Not everyone can go around wearing anti-Bush slogans, but anyone can wear red. The fact that wearing red isn't necessarily a political message means that most people will be able to get away with it even in their workplace. The e-mail I got just suggested a red article of clothing (like a necktie, perhaps?), not head-to-toe red. Of course, wearing red combined with an anti-Bush or pro-Dem or pro_Kerry button or something bearing a slogan (for those who can get away with it) will help establish the meaning of red on Fridays as being anti-Bush.

That the fascisti have co-opted the color RED, for Gods sake, to signify the states where they hold sway. Red has always meant Left to me. Let's recapture our color and wear it on Fridays to oppose Der Fuhrer . . . :kick:

17. sorry, but red denoting states in a presidential election has ALWAYS

signified the challengin party. Blue has always signified the incumbent party.

By rights, Bush states should be shown as blue this time around and Kerry states should be red.

5. YES YES!

We've been circulating this around Santa Barbara. Two fridays ago my son was playing with some other kids -- and they all were wearing red! A few of us mom's realized we were on the same page politically even though we'd never discussed it. It was great.

This is slowly spreading in our community. It's easy to do and may get some conversations going that wouldn't otherwise.

It came from a friend who is an avowed Bush-hater, so I think it has merit.

11. I can hardly wait 'til Friday

I'm in the St.Louis area and the Cardinals are playing at home. There will be an OCEAN OF RED in the stadium. Maybe that will help remove the curse of Der Fuhrer opening the baseball season here when he threw out the first ball. I'll be wearing RED Friday. Pass it on. We could be a movement!

Even if only the politically-oriented get it at first - at the very least it will be a morale-booster. Eventually, more people will catch on if we all talk about it enough. Especially if as many of us as are able wear the buttons along with the red to help tie the two together.

22. I wore a red t-shirt under a black polo last Friday but I don't think

anyone noticed. Early in the evening, I had dinner at a restaurant where I ran into an older gentleman wearing red who I am sure was not protesting Bush. I am beginning to think that, for those of us who are free to explain the symbolism of wearing red, that we get a red ribbon similar to the yellow ones that everyone is wearing. That will encourage others to ask us what the ribbon is for. Wearing red clothing is something that may or not mean anything to others,a red ribbon definitely means something.
