'Log Cabin' Jews?
A friend of mine coined that (decidedly derisive) phrase when I told him my story:
A mutual friend of ours turned out to be a Jewish Republican.

I can't believe I actually met one, and when they told me they've been Republican their whole life (I think the parents had something to do with it), they "admitted" they "usually" vote democrat. Anyone else know any?
Is party affiliation a mere joke?

Out of curiosity I dug up the following:
Republican Jewish Coalition

Jewish Republicans say it's not about social issues

1. I know one - he is extremely wealthy
I haven't seen him in years, but he used to listen to Rush. BTW, his father had traveled to Israel and brought him back a shirt with Hebrew - he refused to wear it. Those of us that knew him from the JCC were the only ones when he was out "clubbing" that knew he was Jewish.

2. Proves my point here- 'they' want to remain "closeted'
It's sad.

4. Right wing Jews
Lots of Jews are republicans, reports my wife, who is invloved in Jewish Education. (I'm an atheist).
Right wing Jews have been teaming up with Tom DeLay and his ilk based on the Israel issue. The Jews care about Israel, and DeLay wants certain events to occur to speed up the second coming.

6. I find the whole issue of Israel disturbing
You'd think after 2000 years they'd have resolved it. (I think Clinton was actually making real progress until September 2000.)
But the exploitation of the issue by the GOP is readily seen here.
Delay is one of the lowest life forms the human race has ever produced.

7. Fundamentalists (of all stripes) will be the death of us all. (NT)
Folks here like to tell us atheists that "religion doesn't
hurt anyone".

Folks like Tom Delay and Right-Wing Jews working in aliance
prove this just isn't so. And when those folks manage to
escalate the I/P conflict from an inter-tribal war to a
full-scale nuclear exchange, perhaps others will agree
with me.

Meanwhile, yes, Log Cabin Jews definitely exist. I remember
back to '68 when I was supporting Hubert Humphrey and my
friend Mark was a die-hard Nixon man.

5. Log Cabin Jews
Aack! That makes my head hurt.

I knew one guy back when I was teaching ESL. Rabidly religious, he always was listening to his rabbi's sermons on tape... on his head phones..all day.

Since a lot of our students were arabs, I wandered how he managed.

You're right about the rw jews/rr connection though. That is a strange set of bedfellows.

9. Tell that to the Texas legislature
Freeper said: "Liberals can't understand opposing views?"

Your intolerance and misunderstanding is pathetic. Why doesn't Tom DeLay let the democrats draw up new districts? Seems he can't understand the opposing view. and he is par for the GOP course.
Yeah, teach us about inclusion.

10. Let's all just hit alert and sing that old Woody Guthrie tune...
http://www.fortunecity.com/tinpan/parton/2/solong.html

SO LONG, IT'S BEEN GOOD TO KNOW YOU (WOODY GUTHRIE) (Nov 10, 1942)

I got the news that the war had begun
It was straight for the Army Hall that I run
And all of the people in my home town
Was a running up and a running down
Singing:

CHORUS:
So long, it's been good to know you
So long, it's been good to know you
So long, it's been good to know you
There's a mighty big war that's got to be won
And we'll get back together again.

12. ex-liberal eh'
Why gay/women/jewish/african american republicans boggle my mind is that they actively support leaders who would discriminate and demean them.

If you are pro-life, that's fine. For the death penalty that is also fine, there are Democrats who are all these things.

But to belong to a party that has become so swept up in right-wing fundie christianity and hate that's bad no matter what way you look at it. Republicans= Greedmongers no matter what way they try to spin it and hurts America.
