When the republicans needed the blue collar vote to win, they invented the gun lobby and the single issue of gun control. Using inner city ideas about gun control to scare the hunters and body politic.

When the republicans needed the catholic vote to win, they invented the "right to life" and the single issue of overturning "roe vs. wade". Offering the Catholic leadership a campaign for millions of catholics who were seeking a modern, more focused mission.


When the republicans needed the black vote to win, they invented the "voucher" and the single issue of "non-competitive public education". Installing a national test to prove and underfunding the public education system to ensure public school failure.

is that you don't "create" an issue, you recognize it. There were people out there that had these ideas, and the Rs siezed on them and offered leadership. The Ds can do the same. But they have to recognize where the American public is on a question and provide a way to get the answer that the people want. There are pleanty ofissues out there.
