A Ho Chi Minh City museum that honors Vietnam war protesters features a photograph of Sen. John Kerry being greeted by the general secretary of the Communist Party, Comrade Do Muoi.

A snapshot of the display in the Vietnamese Communist War Remnants Museum – formerly known as the "War Crimes Museum" – was acquired over the weekend by Jeffrey M. Epstein of Vietnam Vets for the Truth, a group opposing Kerry's campaign for the presidency.

The snapshot of the display, which depicts a July 1993 meeting, was forwarded to Epstein by Bob Shirley, one of more than 200 members of Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth who signed an open letter questioning Kerry's fitness to serve as commander-in-chief.

Epstein said the picture of the display was taken by Bill Lupetti, a Swift Boat Veteran who currently is visiting Vietnam.

Epstein said the display photograph's "unquestionable significance lies in its placement in the American protesters' section of the War Crimes Museum" in Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon.

"The Vietnamese communists clearly recognize John Kerry's contributions to their victory," he said. "This find can be compared to the discovery of a painting of Neville Chamberlain hanging in a place of honor in Hitler's Eagle's Nest in 1945."

Below the display photograph are explanatory placards in English, French, Vietnamese and Chinese.

5. Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh

..Worked with the CIA to help fight the Japanese during WWII. He then declared an independent Vietnam in 1945 quoting liberally from the declaration of independence and Thomas Jefferson. We thanked him for his help by turning his newly liberated country (sorry, "colonial possession") back over to the French, who's rectii we had just saved. But they couldn't get there right away, so we let the Japanese, who he had just helped us defeat, administer Vietnam in their 'stead until the French could get back.

What's my point? You know, the right is obviously going to blow a gasket over John Kerry being against the vietnam war (after he bravely fought in it) but I think that if they really want to open up the vietnam debate, with some genuine discussion of what really went down in that war (does that ever happen? well, a man can dream) it'll only backfire on them.

4. Don't Be Fooled By The Article!

Why doesn't the article mention the reason for the July 1993 meeting?
Could it have been to reestablish relations with Vietnam?
Maybe it was to ask the Vietnamese to account for the MIA's?
See, they are careful not to let you know the purpose of the 1993 photo. Where the photo is placed in the museum has no relevance without explanation of why it is in the museum in the first place.
A newsworthy article would also include the text that accompanies the photo.

If Kerry had that much power to sway the course of that war - he deserves to be president. Just think what he could with a whole country behind him and not just a little boat.

Epstein's group says the exhibit refutes Kerry's insistence his antiwar protests did not render support to the enemy in time of war.

Epstein's group certainly reads a whole hell of a lot into that innocuous caption, don't you think?

As for what John Kerry was doing in Vietnam in '93, he was doing a lot more than Messrs. Epstein and Shirley trying to get resolution on MIA cases from the Vietnamese.
From a July 1, 1993 floor speech by Senator Kerry:

”It is my personal belief that the President keeps greater faith with the families of this country by guaranteeing that our team on the ground in Vietnam can have access in Vietnam , by guaranteeing that we will continue to have archival research access, that we will continue to have oral history access by virtue of a two-way street, a cooperative process between Vietnam and ourselves.
Another argument made frequently by those who say `do not go forward,' Mr. President, is that they say we are not getting results. They say Vietnam is not cooperating. Mr. President, I respectfully disagree. Let me describe the actual record of cooperation and results.

When I made the first of some seven trips to Vietnam in the course of the last 2 years, we had no permanent office in Hanoi or in Vietnam . We had no permanent American servicemen assigned to Vietnam on a permanent basis of searching for the remains or for answers to questions about POW's. We had no archival research. Some of those documents have in fact given us the answers of what happened to individual servicemen that we still had questions about. That is a result, a concrete result.

Lupetti took the picture while "visiting Vietnam".
Lupetti gave the picture to Shirley.
Shirley gave it to Epstein.
Epstein added the propaganda and sent it on to the various a**hole "veterans"* against Kerry groups.
