What's the deal with Mickey Kaus?

Why is he given his own blog on Slate? What are his credentials, etc.?

I don't visit his blog often, but when I do it seems to me that it is like a rough draft for up-coming media whore talking points. He's fascinated with trivia, with the tawdry and vulgar. He had a pathetic little hard-on for weeks over the Polier affair.

He's also been a regular of guest of Dennis Miller, back when I would occasionally check out his show (now I totally ignore it).

Is he a repig, or what?

Or is he just a straight-up sell-out media whore?
