Will Bush re-instate the draft?

I just heard a rumor that Bush is going to try to re-instate the draft. Do any of you think this is going to happen?

3. I don't see that he has a choice if he continues to "stay the course".

If we try to involve the UN, maybe we can actually start bringing troops home. Otherwise, we'll need a draft just to maintain our current presence there.

organized, since last year sometime, so yes, absolutely.
They've pulled troops out of S. Korea, out of the Balkans,
they're getting desperate. They'll have to use a draft.
The troops are voting with their feet.

Even today he was comparing the "war on terror" to WWII and the Cold War, emphasizing that we will keep our country on the "offensive" indefinitely. People better wake the truck up.

I'm a 28 year old female, so if they expand the parameters of the draft as I've seen mentioned (male or female 18-36) even I could be covered by it.

My brother is 24, so I'm definitely nervous for him.

13. This Is Bush's Problem

He needs more troops and volunteerism isn't going to get them for him, so he has to have the draft. But the real problem is making it look fair when he has such a large pool and not that great a need. There will have to be a draft but it will have to be a draft with one hell of a lot of expemptions. There are over 3 million young men who would presumably be in the draft pool (19~26, male, not in school, not married) but a draft probably wouldn't exceed the number of people we have in Iraq right now; what's that, 138,000? So how do you exempt that many young men, particularly making sure the sons of your rich contributors don't get the letter in the mail, and at least try to make it look fair?

14. Too Large a Pool Won't be the Problem

He wants to draft a lot more than 138,000.
Try 10 or 20 times that number.

Figure on a few hundred thousand to "maintain order" stateside.
